Good day all, this is the Angry Systems Administrator. I just tried running an update for the Disqus plugin we use for comments on this site. It’s safe to say that the update was “Not Ready for Prime Time.”
The update ran normally, and when completed, broke the Blog. Fortunately, I’ve learned from hard, painful experience that backups are my best friend. (This lesson was brought to me by the Blithering Idiot Angry Webmaster)
I had to FTP into the server, navigate into the proper directory and delete the broken plugin. Then I pulled the most recent back up and extracted the original plugin and put it back in place. Needless to say, I won’t be doing another update on Disqus until I know they’ve actually fixed the damn thing.
The actual down time was measured in a few minutes. If you are one of the three people who actually read the rantings and ravings of the Angry Webmaster, and happened to hit the site then, my apologies. (Although, you really didn’t miss much)
