News from behind the scenes

Good day all, this is the Angry Systems Administrator. I’ve been rather quiet of late, mostly keeping my head down and grinding away in our Data center.

Anger Central’s blog was upgraded to version 5 over the weekend, (And version 5.01 was just released), and we’ve been learning how it works. To begin with, they built in a new editor, and honestly, it sucks.

Fortunately, someone came to the same conclusion and they’ve built in a plugin called “Classic Editor.” That’s another word for “Really old and not shiny new editor for you old farts because you aren’t cool.” (Yeah kid, but us old farts are utterly ruthless too)

One of the things I’ve hear about the new versions of WordPress was that they were going to remove the built in comment system and force you to go the third party route. We use Disqus, so normally that would be a moot point, however we’ve always liked having the internal comments section available if we wanted to go back to it. I just did a preview and it looks like they haven’t removed that feature as yet.

On the advertising front, Amazon. They recently killed the old CPM advertising system and now use something they call Native Shopping Ads. What I think they’re doing is looking for ways to generate sales without actually paying commissions to small blogs such as ours.

For instance, here are a few adds I tossed in on blogging. (Something the Blithering Idiot Angry Webmaster should invest in. They are very simple and we do see clicks and purchases made from them. What we don’t see is any revenue. (We’re not blaming our loyal fan, he’s doing the best he can)

We also aren’t seeing a lot of comments or “Thumbs up” here either. Well, as I said, our one fan is doing the best he can. We’ve had a fan page on Faceplant for years, which, considering the political leanings of The Angry Webmaster, (To the far right of Genghis Kahn), is still up and running. We’ve never been hit with the Faceplant ban hammer, which I find shocking considering some of the things the Angry Webmaster has posted.

They probably can’t be bothered since we’re so teensy weensy. We also have a Twitter feed, where we do get a bit more traffic. However, considering how Twitter and Facebook love to ban anything they don’t like, we’ve branched out a bit. We now have accounts on Gab.com and Oneway.com.

Recently, Gab.com was pulled offline when their domain registrar and Hosting service objected to some of the crackpots who post there. We’ve seen them and we simply exercise our rights to utterly ignore them. Of course, the Progressive mindset is such that you can’t be trusted to make your own decisions so they will make them for you.

Those two sites are currently low trafficked of course, but since they don’t censor or ban, (Except in the cases of criminal activities), we are hoping they will overtake Facebook and Twitter. Considering just how deeply both Twitter and Facebook have stepped in it of late, with Congress raking them over the coals, there’s a fair chance they’re going to go the way of Yahoo in short order.

Which brings us to Googlag. I’ve just read that Googlag is going to kill Google+. We’ve been posting to that for years, using an automated tool, however I don’t recall the last time anyone here actually logged in to check it. Once it is finally shutdown, I’ll remove that feature from our settings.

This concludes my update on the back end of the Anger Central Blog, (aka Musings of the Angry Webmaster). I hope you find it informative and that you will all continue to waste copious amounts of time here. Please share our small site far and wide. Maybe Amazon will notice that we’re actually sending them traffic.

Thank you
