Good day all. News has come out that the “Conservative” magazine, the Weekly Standard is shutting down today. (Friday December 14) They will report that the reasons for going under are many and varied.
The real reason is simple. They totally pissed off their subscriber base and they took their money and left. How did they piss off their subscribers? They went Never Trump and never stopped attacking President Trump. Here are a few details of the shutdown from the specialists in Fake News, CNN:
The Weekly Standard, the magazine that espouses traditional conservatism and which has remained deeply critical of President Donald Trump, will shutter after 23 years, Clarity Media Group, the owner of its publisher announced Friday morning. It will publish its final issue on December 17.
I used to ready the Weekly Standard, and visited their web site often. Then, during the 2016 election, I watched them develop what became a terminal case of TDS. (Trump Derangement Syndrome)
“For more than twenty years The Weekly Standard has provided a valued and important perspective on political, literary and cultural issues of the day,” Ryan McKibben, the chairman of The Weekly Standard’s publisher, MediaDC, said in a press release. “The magazine has been home to some of the industry’s most dedicated and talented staff and I thank them for their hard work and contributions, not just to the publication, but the field of journalism.”
They were good, once. But they slit their own throats in 2016 after President Trump became the nominee. Their Co-Founder. Bill Krystol, went totally off the deep end when President Trump won the nomination, going so far as to telling people they should vote for Felonia von Pantsuit. In the end, the Weekly Standard was forced to kick Krystol to the curb, but as we can see, it was to late.
The closing of the magazine represents a broader shift in conservative media. Outlets on the right that are critical of Trump have lost influence or changed their tone, while media organizations on the right supportive of the President have flourished.

It isn’t just periodicals. A number of “Conservative” blogs and web sites have seen massive drops in their traffic, while others that either backed President Trump early on, or jumped on board after the Republican Convention have seen their numbers go up. Of course, the publisher doesn’t agree with this.
McKibben, in his statement, blamed The Weekly Standard’s demise on the challenges within the journalism industry, not the magazine’s politics. He said the magazine had over the past several years seen “double-digit declines in its subscriber base” and that “after careful consideration” it “became clear that this was the step we needed to take.”
When you insult your audience, you can’t be surprised when they walk away. The Weak Kneed Standard, as it came to be known, refused to accept that people have had it with the RINO’s and wanted them gone. The Standard has also been rather soft on securing the borders as well, reflecting the wishes of the Chamber of Commerce types who liked not having to pay fair market rates for American workers.
The Weekly Standard was founded in 1995 by Kristol, Fred Barnes, and John Podhoretz. It was initially published by Rupert Murdoch’s News Corporation before being sold to Clarity Media Group in 2009. During the presidency of George W. Bush, it was widely considered to be aligned with the administration and with neoconservatism broadly.
And that was another problem. Neoconservatism has come to mean slightly less Progressive globalism, and a willingness to bow to the European Elite and the United Nations.
Under Steven Hayes’ leadership, The Weekly Standard has remained steadfast in its criticism of Trump. Trump’s supporters have lashed out at The Weekly Standard and its influence in Republican circles has dwindled.
I expect that Hayes will write a new book on how to take a reasonably good magazine and drive it right into the ground. The Weak Kneed Standard is dead and is being replaced by the Washington Examiner. That periodical does good work and also supports President Trump. They will ding him if he makes a mistake, but unlike the Never Trumpers at the Standard, they aren’t insane enough to back the CommuNazis because their wimpy RINO choice blew $100 Million for no wins in the primaries. This is what the Neocons did in 2016 and now another one of them has fallen and won’t be getting up.
