Remember Bernie Madoff?

Good day all. 10 years ago, Bernie Madoff was convicted and sentenced to 150 years imprisonment. He was convicted of stealing billions of dollars from investors by running the largest ponzi scheme in history.

Thousands of people lost everything they had to the scheme, and most of the money was never recovered. Books have been written and movies made on how Madoff pulled this off, and was able to keep it going for so long. In the end, the ponzi scheme collapsed and Madoff was sent to prison for what amounts to a life sentence.

However, Madoff is now asking for clemency. Here are some of the details from Fox Business:

Notorious Ponzi scheme Opens a New Window. architect Bernard Madoff Opens a New Window. – who is currently serving a 150-year prison sentence – has filed a petition for clemency with the Department of Justice. Madoff, 81, is asking that his sentence be reduced, not for a complete pardon, as first reported by CNBC and confirmed to FOX Business by the Justice Department.

Well, I can safely say he won’t be getting a pardon, even if he asked for it.

About a decade ago, the financier was convicted of running one of the largest Ponzi schemes in history – he was charged with 11 counts of fraud, money laundering, theft and perjury. He was accused of cheating investors out of as much as $65 billion over the course of 20 years. The fraud involved about 4,800 clients.

And there are 4800 reasons why Madoff should remain in prison until he dies. When people talk about the rapacious scum on Wall Street, they are talking about people like Madoff. The damage he did is still reverberating in the financial world. I suspect that if Madoff were released, he might meet with a fatal accident, or commit suicide by shooting himself in the back of the head three times.

Now, in order to get clemency, President Trump would need to approve it. While the request is pending, I doubt that President Trump is going grant Madoff any clemency. Some people deserve to die in prison and Madoff is one of them. Perhaps if he made restitution to all of his victims, replacing the money the lost with interest, then, perhaps, clemency could be considered. Madoff and his family are ruined and the money is gone, so he has no way to repay that debt. As far as I’m concerned, let him rot and when he finally croaks, cremate him and scatter the ashes over a garbage heap.
