NH Governor rips Mass DMV

Good day all. Dealing with any state’s Department of Motor Vehicles is about as enjoyable as getting a colonoscopy with wire brush without anesthetic, and the Massachusetts DMV is one of the worst in the nation.

Last June, there was a horrific accident in New Hampshire. A truck driver crashed into and killed 7 people on motorcycles. It turns out that the driver, who had a Massachusetts commercial license should not have been on the road to begin with. This has led New Hampshire governor Chris Sununu to lay into the incompetence of the Massachusetts DMV. Here are the details from Fox News:

New Hampshire Republican Gov. Chris Sununu slammed Massachusetts officials Friday, accusing them of being responsible for the shocking crash in his state that killed seven bikers. The attack follows revelations that Volodymyr Zhukovskyy, 23, the Massachusetts truck driver who has been charged with negligent homicide in the June crash, should have had his driving license suspended for previous infractions, but the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles took no action.

The Mass DMV has been a hive of incompetence for decades. I know a person who had his license suspended for reasons. When the time for the suspension to end arrived, he had moved to New Hampshire. He went to the NH DMV and was told that while New Hampshire didn’t have a problem, Massachusetts still considered his license suspended and would arrest him if he drove into the state. It took over a year and had lawyers involved before the Massachusetts DMV finally admitted the person was cleared to drive again.

Then there is another case I am aware of. A woman who had a habit of collecting parking tickets, moved to New Hampshire. Now the tickets had all be paid off and cleared. However, The Mass DMV refused to acknowledge this and repeatedly threatened her with license suspension and arrest. This continued even after proof was provided that the woman had taken care of all the tickets. (She had receipts)

Now in New Hampshire, the Angry Girlfriend has had her share of issues with the New Hampshire DMV. She is an immigrant and licenses expire when the green card expires. Thanks to the Immigration system, the Angry Girlfriend was operating under an extension. This meant her renewed license was good for 8 months. Thankfully, once her new green card was approved and sent, she was able to renew her license for the full 5 years. In Mass? If she were an illegal alien, they would have ignored her as she drove drunk into a crowd of school children. (FYI, she doesn’t drink and is a very careful driver)

The governor’s office comments also follow remarks by Erin Deveney, the RMV’s former registrar, who blamed both New Hampshire and Massachusetts for failing to transmit notifications about out-of-state drivers whose licenses should be suspended. She later resigned amid the uproar over the failure to suspend the man’s license.

New Hampshire is fairly good at sending along the appropriate data. However, with the Massachusetts DMV, there is no guarantee that the data won’t end up deleted or ignored.

But Sununu’s spokesman blasted the suggestion of equal blame, saying, “For Ms. Deveney to try and conflate the severity of their problem with New Hampshire is shameful and reaffirms why she no longer has a job.”

As for the driver, it looks like he was your stereotypical Drunken Russian.

Since the crash, it has emerged that Volodymyr Zhukovskyy had multiple run-ins with the law.

In May, Connecticut prosecutors said Zhukovskyy was arrested in a Walmart parking lot after failing a sobriety test. Zhukovskyy’s lawyer in that case, John O’Brien, said his client denies being intoxicated and will fight the charge.

It seems that Zhukovskyy didn’t fail the test, he refused to take it.

Zhukovskyy’s refusal to take a chemical sobriety test should have resulted in an immediate suspension of his commercial drivers license, but no such action was taken by Massachusetts authorities.

Connecticut officials twice alerted Massachusetts about an earlier drunken driving arrest. Massachusetts investigators later determined the Registry of Motor Vehicles hadn’t been acting on thousands of out-of-state notifications about serious driving violations.

And this is why the Massachusetts DMV is a joke. There have been attempts in the past to clean up that mess, but the DMV is very unionized and in Massachusetts, like Kalifornistan, the Unions rule. They will never allow what needs to happen. Changes in the work rules and flat out firing the incompetent idiots. Frankly, I don’t know what can be done short of New Hampshire invading Massachusetts and occupying it.

You know,,, now that I consider it…
