Good day. It’s been about 12 days, give or take, since my “Real World Job” sent everyone home to telecommute. To be honest, it’s not a lot of fun, and has slowed down my team’s productivity. Still, we are persevering.
While we have been told that the offices remain “open” technically, you had better have a good reason for going in. Being able to do your job in the most efficient manner possible, doesn’t seem to be a good reason. We’ve been told to stay out until March 27th, however, we’re hearing that the powers that be are still in full panic mode and we may be kept out longer.
Which brings me to what I’ve actually been doing. I like to walk around at lunch, mostly to burn off extra energy and calories, and I have continued to do so. I’m developing a route that should take about an hour to cover, and it loops past the local supermarket. I like to go in and pick up a few items, maybe a sandwich or a pre-made salad. I also like to see how well the stocks are holding up. Most of the aisles are fully stocked, although the meat section is looking rather empty. The paper good section?

The market is generally busy but not packed wall to wall. The managers are being ever so helpful in aiding people keeping their distances by keeping most of the checkouts closed and forcing shoppers to stack up 5 deep
As mentioned, the hordes of drooling hoarders are continuing their panic buying of paper goods, especially toilet paper. It’s almost reached Mad Max levels when word comes out that someplace has a shipment of butt wipes available.

As for the “News” media? They aren’t helping things much. I tend to ignore CNN, the over the air networks, and I won’t even bother talking about the fruitcakes of MSNBC. However, I’ve also started ignoring Fox News now, at least the cable version.
They’ve started running some sort of “Death Watch” chyron where they are updating it with those who have gotten sick and those who croaked. They aren’t doing anything to show how many have recovered, how many just had mild cases, or explained that those who died had serious health issues to begin with.

As for the various states, most are simply saying “Keep your distance and if you can, work for home. However, the states run by the Barking Moonbats, Progressives, Liberals, and Democrats, (Yes I know, what’s the difference?), have decided to go full totalitarian and tell people they will stay home or else. For now, fear of this battle station the China Flu, along with huge amounts of bad information are keeping people at home.
Now on the good news side, it appears the French have found something that seems to clear up the China Flu. It’s a treatment that was developed for Malaria in World War 2. Obviously, there needs to be a large, systemic test of this and other old drugs that seem to be showing promise. Of course, this also means that the American Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control need to be slapped upside the head and told to quit playing bureaucratic turf games.
This is the dirty little secret about how the China Flu got into the United States. In the early days, (January/February), some researchers in Washington State started noticing things and developed a simple test to determine who had the China flu and who didn’t. When the CDC and FDA heard about it, they ordered the doctors to stop, or else. Why? Good old fashioned NIH. (Not Invented Here)

The two agencies released a new test that wasn’t as good and apparently, was defective. This slowed down our response. From what I’ve read, when President Trump found out, he was not happy. When this is all done, I think the FDA and the CDC are going to be getting the congressional anal probe to end all anal probes.
Another interesting story I read was that they think that the China Flu may have actually hit America a lot sooner then thought, possibly as early as January. If so, then I may have already caught it and gotten over it. The symptoms I had mostly matched those I’ve read about for people with mild cases. Also, my manager was in Hanoi on business and was ill when he came back, and he was nice enough to share.
This makes me wonder if there is a simple, cheap test to see if there are people who are clear of the China flu, but have some sort of antibodies in their systems that render them immune. If so, then pretty much everyone in my office has already had this thing and we can all go back to normal.
In the meantime, I’m watching the markets carefully to see when it’s time to buy in. China is reopening for business, and you can expect goods to flow into the United States in the next 4-6 weeks. By then, this nonsense about “Sheltering in place,” will be done and the Panicdemic will be over. We will have a really bad quarter, a not so great quarter and then the economy is going to explode upwards again.
So, in the words of the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, “Don’t Panic!”
