Who is going to replace Ruth Bader-Ginsburg?

Good day all. Now that the Notorious Ruth Bader-Ginsburg has assumed room temperature, the question arises, “Who is President Trump going to select as his nominee for the Supreme Court?

Among the criteria is the nominee must be a true scholar of the Constitution, The Bill of Rights and be a strict constructionist. (Meaning that the constitution means what it says and they issue rulings in that spirit) The second criteria is that the person should be able to get through the confirmation process. This has led many to conclude that President Trump may reach down to a lower court and select one of his earlier appointment. Currently, the two people being talked about are Amy Coney Barrett and Barbara Lagoa. Here are the details from Fox News:

Two names have been emerging from the list of Supreme Court contenders President Trump is said to be considering following the death of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, according to reports. Judges Amy Coney Barrett in Chicago and Barbara Lagoa in Atlanta are said to top the list.

Barrett, 48, a judge with the Chicago-based U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, is a conservative, pro-life Roman Catholic who clerked for late Justice Antonin Scalia after she graduated from law school. The New Orleans native was appointed by Trump to the Seventh Circuit in 2017. She previously taught law at the University of Notre Dame for 15 years but had no judicial record at the time, according to the Washington Post. She believes in originalism, the idea that judges should interpret the Constitution as the Founding Fathers intended.

Next we have Judge Barbara Lagoa.

The Miami native was nominated in 2006 by then-Gov. Jeb Bush to Florida’s 3rd District Court of Appeals, where she served for more than a decade before being elevated briefly to the state’s Supreme Court. Last year, Trump nominated her to the Atlanta-based U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit and she was easily confirmed, according to USA Today.

Well, we have a Bush judge who isn’t a globalist? What a nice change.

Lagoa is a member of the conservative Federalist Society and is backed by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis but some have questioned her conservative credentials, especially on abortion, according to Politico. She’s also a Roman Catholic and of Cuban descent, which could help Trump in November.

So we would have a smart American of Cuban descent to oppose the “Wise Latina” who is about as wise a bag of potato chips? That works for me. Now, one thing I am “militant on is the 2nd Amendment. I suspect that Judge Barrett understands why the 2nd Amendment was written. As for Judge Lagoa, I have to assume that she also understands the 2nd Amendment and will rule in favor of the Citizens Natural Right of defense and having the tools needed to defend themselves, their families, their neighbors and their country.

As to the Abortion question, I’ve stated in the past that the best way to deal with it is to render it obsolete. Women won’t have abortions because they won’t want or need them. This requires a lot of scientific research and I would hope that the two sides would come together and put the money they are wasting on court challenges and put it into laboratories.

Now to the confirmation process. Both of these judges have already gone through the process and in the case of Judge Lagoa, she has gone through it twice. Both judges now have a track record. The confirmation hearings should deal with anything after their last hearings. If the Democrats try to do another Kavanaugh, it’s going to blow up in their faces…again. As for me? I’m leaning towards Judge Barrett. We will probably find out who the nominee is this week.
