Good day all. Last week the NOTAM system, which stands for “Notice to Air Men,” is a system that pilots use to find out about potential hazards along the routes they’re flying. This would be bad weather, active volcanoes, lunatics with surface to air missiles, that sort of thing.
Without this system, the chances of a plane going down increase, so when the entire system went down, the FAA promptly ordered all aircraft to immediately land, something that hasn’t been down since the 9/11 attack in 2001. It was announced that the reason for this problem was a bad/corrupted computer file. What actually happened was Secretary of Transportation, Pete Buttplug going all Politically Correct/Woke. Here are the details from the Post Millennial:
US Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg oversaw a rebranding of the FAA’s NOTAM system that failed Wednesday, delaying thousands of flights, so that its language would be “more inclusive.”
How do you take a system that has been in use since at least the end of World War Two as civilian air travel took off. There have been issues with NOTAM’s in the past, but they have been technical in nature and were corrected. (FYI, I am not a pilot. I just pretend to be one on game night) It looks like Buttplug decided that he wanted to do something that looked good but accomplished nothing. However, in this case, he may have managed to crash the entire air travel system for several hours.
The acronym previously stood for “Notices to Airmen” but in December 2021, Buttigieg’s office had it changed to “Notices to Air Missions,” according to the Daily Mail. According to the FAA, the new name is a “more applicable term” that is “inclusive of all aviators and missions.”
The system has also been undergoing “modernization” over the last few years.
I wonder what that “Modernization” they are talking about actually was? Was it something like making the notices as simple to understand as possible? Allowing real time electronic updates? Or was it something else? Something like changing the name that the acronym “NOTAM” stands for?
Following the outage on Wednesday that grounded all departing flights in the US, a measure that has not been taken since 9/11, the FAA said in a statement,
“The FAA is continuing a thorough review to determine the root cause of the Notice to Air Missions (NOTAM) system outage. Our preliminary work has traced the outage to a damaged database. At this time, there is no evidence of a cyber attack. The FAA is working diligently to further pinpoint the causes of this issue and take all needed steps to prevent this kind of disruption from happening again.”
Hmmm, I think I may see a potential issue here. Someone changed the name from Notice to Air Men to some sort of Woke PC drivel, “Notice to Air Missions.” The last I heard, missions weren’t flying planes, it was air men and women,
It is unclear if the ongoing “modernization” played a role in the failure or how much of the process has been completed.
Oh I think we know the real answer to that.
The FAA said in a December 22 post that the transition would be done in two phases “Format Familiarization Enhancement” and “ICAO NOTAM Format Transition” in order to “improve the delivery of safety-critical information to aviation stakeholders.”
So they are changing the name, and my guess is someone did a “Search and Replace” on all the code. Then, probably on instructions from the ever so Woke and incompetent Buttplug, they rolled it right into production with no testing.
Buttigieg was slammed for Wednesday’s failure, yet another crisis during his tenure in the Biden administration.
Oh I wouldn’t worry to much, there is a lot more about Pete Buttplug’s stupefying incompetence to come.
The former presidential candidate and mayor of South Bend, Indiana, who was handpicked by President Joe Biden to lead the Transportation department, has been criticized by officials on both sides of the political spectrum for his handling of shortages in the supply chain to massive commercial airline delays.
Buttplug wasn’t hired to actually do the job. He was hired because he’s homosexual and he looks good on camera, nothing more.
Many questioned “Mayor Pete’s” appointment by Biden as his tenure in South Bend, Indiana, had been marred by ineptitude including needing the help of Domino’s Pizza to fix potholes in the city.
Mayor Buttplug is only interested in climbing the political ladder. In 2020, he was one of the many losers that the Democrats put up, and he did about as well as that other incompetent moron. Kamala “Heels Up” Harris. She was named as VP for two reasons. Harris is a female, and she’s allegedly a minority. She was also meant to take over when they gently nudged Dementia Joe out of the Oval Office. Pete Buttplug was meant to be her VP.
Now there is a fair chance that Buttplug may be “Invited to spend more time with his family” and be booted out of the maladministration. Any ideas he had of moving up and eventually becoming President are either sitting on a runway unable to take off, or floating around off the Kalifornistan coast, looking for a port to dock in. While I can’t state with any confidence that Buttplug’s Wokeness caused the NOTAM outage, it wouldn’t surprise me one bit.
