Looks like Disney is in real legal trouble

Good day all. Unless you have been living in a cave, you are probably aware that Disney corporation and Governor Ron DeSantis have been going at each other hammer and tongs. It all started when Florida passed a law designed to give parents more say in their children’s education and to clean out the groomers.

This set off the hard left, including Disney. At first, the then CEO, Bob Chapek, wanted to steer clear of the politics of the situation. However, the leftists and moonbats forced him to get involved. The upshot was that the Florida Legislature dissolved the special district set up for Disney when they started building Disneyworld.

They replaced the entity known as the Reedy Creek Improvement District, (RCID), with a new district called the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District. (CFTOD) This also brought in a new management board and they have been reviewing the actions of the previous board under RCID. Apparenlty. they have found things. I was watching a YouTube video by a lawyer who actually specializes in these districts and the laws they work under. He has been following what is becoming “Mousegate or Ratgate” for a while now.

It seems that the new District has found some very questionable expenditures and has asked the Inspector General to investigate. Here are the details from the New York Post:

A board appointed by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis to oversee the special tax district for Walt Disney World is asking the state’s inspector general to probe whether officials on the former board took millions in taxpayer dollars to pay for resort season passes and other perks.

The Central Florida Tourism Oversight District told the inspector general’s office on Monday that the board that used to oversee the Orlando theme park’s district paid Disney more than $2 million last fiscal year for its members and employees to have season passes, as well as discounts on hotel stays, merchandise, food and beverages.

I am not any sort of legal expert on anything, but I have found someone on YoutTube who is an actual Subject Matter Expert. He’s a lawyer who specializes in the laws dealing with these special districts. Here is his comments on YouTube on what was found by the new District managers. It’s over an hour so make yourself comfortable.

The DeSantis-appointed board combed through thousands of documents to investigate whether its predecessors, who were appointed by Disney, unethically received the perks.

Apparently they did. The New York Post story goes into some details on what has been found so far. It’s not good. According to the attorney running Legal Mindset, this is flat out illegal and there is a good chance that people will be going to jail. It helps the case that someone at Disney pulled a boneheaded move and actually invoiced RCID for the tickets and other items.

Now the question is, just how far back does this go? One of the big problems for Disney is Bob Iger and his apparent inability to keep his mouth shut. He is on record as saying that Reedy Creek, (The old district), was Disney and that Disney was Reedy Creek. Apparently there were Disney employees working for the District.

From what I understand from Legal Mindset, this is not permitted under Florida law. Add to this all the other financial issues Disney is having and it isn’t beyond the realm of possibility that Disney could fail. Stay tuned. Things look to get interesting for Disney, and not in a good way.
