This is annoying. Comment plugin crashed site

Hello all, this is the Angry Systems Administrator. I woke up to a downed site this morning, not something I want to deal with before having coffee.

When I checked the blog, all I saw was a blank white screen. I’ve seen this before and it usually means a bad update to a plugin. I checked the dates and found that our comment plugin wpDisquz, which we’ve been using for over a year had updated automatically at the time the site down alert came in.

I renamed the plugin directory and the site started loading immediately. Thinking it might have been a problem during the auto-update, I tried manually downloading it, however it still crashed the site when I activated it.

For the time being, we’re back on the built in comments system for WordPress. It sucks. it blows and I’m looking for anything better, including the previous version of wpDisqus if I can find it. I have tried to access their forum, but they don’t like me. There is no support for the free version of course.

So there you have it. If you tried accessing the site overnight and saw nothing but a white screen, this was the reason. My apologies for the issues. (It’s been a miserable weekend for me between this and my Real World Job which always comes first. They actually pay me)

Thank you

  1. WTF? What is with these alleged developers? How many plugins have we had to abandon because they can’t be bothered to do actual QA on them?
