President Jimmy Carter has assumed room temperature

Good day all. I’ve been working on this post since I first heard that Jimmy Carter, the 39th President of the United States, had died at age 100. This is my second attempt. My first one was rather unsubtle regarding my feelings towards Carter.

I became politically aware during the administration of James Earl Carter. He was the reason I voted for the Greatest President of the 20th century, Ronald Reagan.

I came to the conclusion that Jimmy Carter was a dangerous incompetent during the hostage crises in Iran. I was also starting to look at the economic mess that happened under Carter, although that affected me indirectly. (It was my parents who had to deal with the economic failures) Carter’s disastrous economic policies eventually culminated in a speech he gave that became known as the “Malaise” Speech. I don’t remember the speech, but I do remember the fallout from it. It wasn’t good.

It was under Jimmy Carter that we gave away the Panama Canal. This was yet another of Carter’s many strategic blunders and foreign policy disasters. The worst one was pushing the Shah of Iran out in favor of the Islamic nutjobs under Ayatollah Khomeini. That led to the American embassy being stormed and the diplomats and staffers being held for 444 days.

In the end, people had pretty much had it with James Earl Carter. He gave one of his usual useless addresses on inflation and the Boston Globe accidentally released the first edition with an internal headline that came to sum up everything about the Carter Administration. The headline? Mush from the Wimp. Although the headline wash changed in later editions, that was it for Jimmy Carter.

When he left office, he was considered the worst president in American history. He went on to somewhat rehabilitate himself with his charitable works, the Habitat for Humanity being the best known one. However, Jimmy Carter never really got over being considered the worst president in history until another Democrat took office, Barack Obama.

I don’t need to go into everything Obama did to make America Second Rate, you can dig into the archives of this blog. By the end of his first term, Obama was generally considered to be far worse then Jimmy Carter. There were any number of memes and jokes about Carter managing to live long enough to see a president who was even more inept and incompetent then he was. Then came Joe Biden and Jimmy Carter was dropped to being the third worst president in American history.

Jimmy Carter was personally an honest and loyal American. He served in the Navy, and was honorably discharged. He wasn’t a corrupt president or politician, just an inept and incompetent one. His one term as Governor of Georgia was not considered a success. However, he managed to win the Democrat nomination for president in 1976 and later, thanks to the fallout from the Watergate scandal, the presidency.

It could be said that Jimmy Carter’s incompetent administration led to the two terms of the Greatest President of the 20th Century, Ronald Reagan. Where Carter was basically letting the Soviet Union do whatever it wanted, up until they invaded Afghanistan, Reagan came in with a team that turned the economy around, rebuilt the military and caused the eventual collapse of the USSR.

I think the United States would have been better served if Jimmy Carter had stayed out of politics and just farmed peanuts and built houses to help those in need. In the end, there will be two Jimmy Carter’s. The man who was good and decent, who helped those in need, and then the politician who was a complete failure as President of the United States.
