Liberals are not happy with ABC/Trump settlement

Good day all. The recent libel settlement between ABC/Disney and President Donald Trump has made many Progressive Liberal Democrats that infest the Main Stream Media unhappy. Well, to be honest, something the MSM isn’t, they are in a blind rage.

To refresh your memory, ABC’s George Stephenopolis repeatedly said on a broadcast that President Trump had been convicted of rape. This was a flat out lie and Stephenopolis had been warned repeatedly about this, but ignored the warning. These lies led President Trump to sue both Stephenopolis and ABC.

The decision was made by Disney, which own ABC to settle the case and avoid going to trial, since it was pretty obvious that they would lose and big time. The decision by ABC/Disney to settle has set off a number of liberals who are decrying the deal as an assault on a free press. Here are the amusing details from Fox News:

Liberals across social media and on MSNBC are upset over ABC News’ defamation settlement with President-elect Donald Trump, who sued the outlet after host George Stephanopoulos claimed the president-elect was “found liable for rape” during a contentious interview with Rep. Nancy Mace.

“It seems to me that with that language, with that quotation, ABC actually had a very strong case, but chose to settle. A settlement is not an admission of liability. It is instead an agreement to end the matter in the best interest of both parties. But they are agreeing to issue this statement of regret, which is not exactly an apology. But I do worry about the effect this could have on others and the chilling effect it might have on people who otherwise would be critical of Donald Trump,” MSNBC legal analyst Barbara McQuade said during a discussion about the defamation settlement on Saturday.

I looked up Barbara McQuade and she was a U.S. attorney under Obama. That she’s ended up on MSNBC should tell you a lot of how she perceives the law. It’s to be used as a weapon against the Democrat’s enemies. Her statement that ABC had a good case flies in the face of the facts. But then, Democrat and facts never seem to bother them to much.

“I got to think that the ABC boardroom was involved in this decision somehow,” LA Times legal columnist Harry Litman said during the MSNBC appearance on Saturday. “And my big worry to put a finer point on what Barb is saying is it is somehow caught up in the fact he will be president soon.”

Another one from MSNBC? Well, on his remark that this was probably a decision by the boardroom is correct. He was just aiming low. I suspect this was something that Disney’s Bob Iger, the Disney legal department and the Disney boardroom took an interest in. Disney has been getting their heads handed to them across the board and are staring to get very gun shy. There was also the little problem of the facts backing President Trump. If they had lost at trial, it could have cost Disney/ABC billions.

“This seems quite targeted, and I don’t think George Stephanopoulos was wrong. I’m sorry,” MSNBC host Symone Sanders said during a conversation on the network on Saturday.

Ok, why are the moonbats at MSNBC sticking their noses in all this? Shouldn’t they be thinking about their jobs? MSNBC is hemorrhaging viewers and there is still the possibility that Elon Musk might just buy the channel. The MSNBC management might just decide that they need to pull back from the rampaging Trump Derangement Syndrome that is infecting their staff and decide to “Euthanize” the jobs of the worst case sufferers.

Marc E. Elias, a Democratic election lawyer, accused ABC News of bending the knee and kissing the ring by settling.

“Knee bent. Ring kissed. Another legacy news outlet chooses obedience,” he wrote on X.

I understand that Elias may have his own legal issues, or so I’ve heard. He does have a long record of abusing the legal system to to benefit the Democrats at the expense of the Republicans.

Several liberals have started posting on Bluesky, an app similar to Elon Musk’s X, following the election. Norm Eisen, a legal analyst on CNN, wrote that “George Stephanopoulos did not libel Trump—& I very much doubt George wanted to settle.”

“First the LA Times, then the Washington Post, and now ABC News. They are all falling to Donald Trump. When George Stephanopoulos said Trump “raped” E. Jean Carroll, he was using the word colloquially. Trump was found liable of sexually assaulting her,” USA Today opinion columnist wrote on Bluesky.

Nice try Norm. When someone uses the word “Rape” it has a very specific meaning to pretty much anyone with a functioning brain. (This lets out most Leftards and anyone posting on BlueSky these days) The only place it would be “Colloquially” used is among people who want to slander, libel and defame those they hate.

Justin Baragona, a former Daily Beast reporter who now writes for the Independent, wrote on Bluesky, “This sets a worrisome precedent.”

Again with Bluesky? I’ve looked at that socialist media site but didn’t bother setting up an account. It’s what Twitter used to be before Elon Musk took over. A left wing echo chamber that would cancel anyone who dared question the liberal narrative of the moment. There are a number of conservatives who have signed up to just watch the insanity and a few who are trolling the liberals. (They get bounced fairly quickly since they use facts and leftards can’t handle facts)

“But ordinarily, in defamation cases, you have to prove that the person was defamed, that there was actual malice and that the gist of the story was inaccurate.

This is accurate thanks to the Sullivan decision. However, we’re now finding out that Stephenopolis had been warned before going on air several times about his accusation and he ignored the warning. There is your malice. (That he is a Democrat Operative who was part of the Clinton Bimbo Eruptions team that had to deal with then president Bill Bubba Horndog Clinton’s “Indiscretions”)

In addition, you have to show the person’s reputation was harmed in this way.

It was and that was the intention. Do whatever it takes to destroy President Trump and anyone who supports him.

It seems that ABC had a very strong case here and yet they sort of caved anyway.

No, they didn’t have a case and that’s why the settled. Any real lawyer who saw the evidence and everything else going on internally at ABC would see this. All of that would have come out in discovery and that is the last thing that Disney and ABC want to have happen. They’re already filling their pants over the Gina Carano lawsuit that’s been ordered to go into the discovery process.

And I think it sends a bad signal to other media enterprises, it might have a chilling effect or self-censoring effect on the media, as they cover the Trump administration. Of course, a vigorous free press is essential to any administration, even more so in one where Donald Trump has vowed to go after his enemy,” McQuade said.

This attitude has been making the rounds of the Democrat Propaganda Corps. They have been able to get away with defaming people who might have been in the public eye for decades. In the early days of the Republic, things like this would have been settled on the Field of Honor at dawn. When they outlawed dueling, they went the legal route. When the media kept losing there, they got some pet SCOTUS justices to come up with the Sullivan decision.

Then came Nick Sandmann and the flat out lies regarding an incident that happened to him by the MSM. I won’t bother in going into all the details, but the MSM, instead of actually doing their jobs and investigating the reports of what happened that day, doctored footage and made up a narrative that was spread all over the internet. It soon fell apart and Nick Sandmann sued a number of Legacy Media companies. There have been a number of settlements.

I suspect that a case, not necessarily one filed by President Trump, is going to reach the Supreme Court and they will decide the time has come to overturn the Sullivan decision. If that occurs, a few things will happen in the news rooms. Some will be sued into oblivion and others will hire editors and reporters who actually investigate things and write up stories that contain actual facts.

We’re already starting to see some MSM companies making changes. Still, I think it’s going to take the complete destruction of something like the New York Times before the old Lame Stream Media gets the message. As these people are demonstrating with their commentaries, they don’t get it.
