Good day all. What is there to say about MSNBC that hasn’t already been said? Well, how about goodbye? Last year Comcast, tired of setting money on fire and flushing the ashes, decided to spin off MSNBC and several other cable channels into their own company.

The new company, which is going to be named Versant, is scheduled to “Go Live” by the end of then year. One of the changes that is going to be made is to MSNBC. Apparently, the name is so toxic that it will be changed to MS NOW. Here are the details from Fox News:
MSNBC is set to change its name as part of Comcast’s spin-off from NBC Universal, which the company announced in late 2024, according to the Wall Street Journal. The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported on Monday that the left-leaning network’s new name will be “My Source News Opinion World,” or MS NOW.

Might I suggest a different name? My Source for Fake News and TDS. How about My Source For Lies? Changing the name isn’t going to help unless they do a complete internal restructuring, starting with replacing pretty much the entire on air personalities. Of course, it’s not just MSNBC that’s being ditched spun off by Comcast Universal. A number of others are being moved into the new company as well.
“Comcast Corporation (NASDAQ: CMCSA) today announced its intent to create a new publicly traded company comprised of a strong portfolio of NBCUniversal’s cable television networks, including USA Network, CNBC, MSNBC, Oxygen, E!, SYFY and Golf Channel along with complementary digital assets including Fandango and Rotten Tomatoes, GolfNow and Sports Engine, through a tax-free spin-off. The well-capitalized independent company (“SpinCo”) will have significant scale as a pure-play set of assets anchored by leading news, sports and entertainment content,” a November press release from Comcast read.
At one point I watched most of those channels, especially the SyFy channel back when it was the SciFi channel and actually…good. It went downhill when they rebranded. Nowadays, I don’t watch any of them, mostly due to canceling my Dish satellite service last year.
NBC, Bravo and Peacock (NBC’s streaming service) will remain under NBC Universal.
I subscribe to Peacock and actually like a lot of their content. I’m not certain, but they might actually be making money.
Mark Lazarus, who will serve as the head of the new company, Versant, told the WSJ that they hoped to mitigate “brand confusion” in the spinoff.
Isn’t that the intent? By changing the name, you’re hoping to bring in new viewers who might know about the rebranding. Now if you also throw out the progressive woke trash, you might actually be able to pull it off.
Lazarus told the WSJ that MS Now would still cater to a progressive audience and prioritize “holding the political figures from both parties to account.”
Well, so much for that hope. There might be a slight uptick in the ratings as people wander in to see what this MS NOW is all about. Once they see that it’s just MSNBC, they’re going to move on. I know that the new company is going to be publicly traded. Somehow, I don’t think that stock will ever produce a dividend. Now the question will be, how long will MSNBC/MSNOW survive under the new company unchanged?

Thatisall (Except having to generate a whole new slew of memes now)
