Good day all. This story just came out. President Trump has announced that he is going to sign an executive order that voters will be required to provide valid identification.
One of the things that the Democrats have consistently fought against was anything that would interfere with their ability to steal elections. Having someone present their identification, either a valid drivers license or state ID, (Not sure about a passport. They don’t have your legal home address in them), blocks the Democrats from having people vote in multiple locations.
Now the general idea of presenting an ID is to help secure the vote. Much to the consternation of the Democrat Party, the idea of showing your ID when getting a ballot is quite popular. In many states, usually those administered by Republicans, it is required to show your ID. However, in most Democrat states, it’s just the opposite. Not only do you not have to prove that you are eligible to vote, I think Kalifornstan has actively blocked cities from requiring ID to vote. (Not absolutely certain on this)
Now President Trump has decided to once again take the bull by the horns. He is going to issue an Executive Order requiring voters present identification in order to vote. Here are the details from Fox News:
President Donald Trump says he plans to sign an executive order aimed at requiring voter ID in elections across the country. Trump made the statement on social media late Saturday night, saying he is also seeking other reforms to how U.S. elections take place.
“Voter I.D. Must Be Part of Every Single Vote. NO EXCEPTIONS! I Will Be Doing An Executive Order To That End!!! Also, No Mail-In Voting, Except For Those That Are Very Ill, And The Far Away Military. USE PAPER BALLOTS ONLY!” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
Obviously, the order isn’t signed and available yet, so I don’t know what’s in it exactly. This isn’t the first time that President Trump has move to make elections great and honest again. He signed another, more extensive order earlier this year, but another Deep State judge blocked it.
In April, Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia struck down the portions of that order that related to voter identification requirements. Kollar-Kotelly maintained that Trump did not have the authority to issue such an order, as the Constitution delegates control of election regulations to Congress and states.
Actually, I do agree with this. The Constitution has the states handling elections. I’m not sure what the new order will do that was different from the previous order. It could be another move by President Trump to force the Democrats to show, again, that they do not support anything that makes elections more secure, honest and trustworthy. Sort of like how the Democrats have come out and openly begin supporting criminals over law abiding citizens and legal resident aliens.
Nevertheless, requiring voters to provide proof of citizenship remains widely popular among Americans, according to a poll from Gallup taken just before the 2024 elections.
The support for proving citizenship in order to vote crosses party lines and the polling numbers are solidly in favor of this.
The poll found that 84% of U.S. adults were in favor of requiring voters to show identification and 83% supported requiring proof of citizenship when registering for the first time. When broken down by party, 67% of Democrats, 84% of Independents and 98% of Republicans were in favor of mandating voter ID. The party breakdown over proof of citizenship was similar, with 66% of Democrats, 84% of Independents and 96% of Republicans supporting the idea.
When you have almost 70% of the Democrats supporting voter ID and proof of citizenship, the Democrat Party knows they have a problem. The party platform is against voter ID and proof of citizenship. In fact, Democrat operatives are now suing to allow non-citizens to vote.
I don’t think that President Trump really believes that he can use an EO to fix the issues we’ve seen in the last few elections. I think it’s him play 4D chess and trying to force the Democrats into a corner. Then he will work with his supporters in Congress to put forward legislation to handle all the issues we’ve seen. If it’s a good bill and the Democrats play their usual games?
