U.S. Sub sinks Iranian ship

Good day all. For the last couple of days, the United States has been busily turning Iran’s navy into artificial reefs. Most of the Iranian ships, boghammers and submarines were hit in port by missiles and drones. However, the War Department has released news that one of our subs sank a ship with a torpedo.

The last time an American submarine fired a torpedo in anger was World War Two. Since then there have been no “Official” war shots since then. When I first heard about this, my first thought was “What the Hell was an American nuclear sub doing in the Persian Gulf? Those waters tend to be very shallow. Well, it turns out that this target was at sea and in the Indian Ocean. Here are the details from Fox News:

A U.S. submarine sank a prized Iranian warship by torpedo, the first such sinking of an enemy ship since World War II, Secretary of War Pete Hegseth said Wednesday morning.

Hegseth joined Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Dan Caine at the Pentagon to provide an update to reporters on “Operation Epic Fury” in Iran.

“An American submarine sunk an Iranian warship that thought it was safe in international waters,” Hegseth said. “Instead, it was sunk by a torpedo. Quiet death. The first sinking of an enemy ship by a torpedo since World War Two. Like in that war, back when we were still the War Department. We are fighting to win.”

Fighting to win is a new concept these days. For two long, we have had administrations that literally tied the hands of the military, making it all but impossible to create the conditions for a decisive victory. This doesn’t include the administrations that seemed to be actively trying to lose wars.

Hegseth said that the U.S. Navy sank the Iranian warship, the Soleimani. The flagship was named for Qasem Soleimani, an Iranian military officer who served in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps who the U.S. killed in a January 2020 drone strike during President Donald Trump’s first term.

I find this somewhat poetic. Soleimani was hit from above and the Iranian ship Soleimani was hit from below, and from the videos, right in the ass. (That would be the stern for you naval types)

“The Iranian Navy rests at the bottom of the Persian Gulf. Combat ineffective, decimated, destroyed, defeated. Pick your adjective,” Hegseth said. “In fact, last night we sunk their prize ship, the Soleimani. Looks like POTUS got him twice. Their navy, not a factor. Pick your adjective. It is no more.”

Flipping over to Newsmax, we have some additional details on the sinking of this enemy ship:

Sri Lankan Foreign minister Vijitha Herath had earlier told parliament 180 people were on board the Iranian vessel, which he identified as the IRIS Dena.

I think we may have some confusion over the name of that wreck.

Sri Lankan navy spokesman Commander Buddhika Sampath said bodies had been recovered from the sea in the area of the incident. Thirty-two people were rescued by the Sri Lankan navy and were being treated in hospital in the southern port city of Galle.

The navy received a distress call from an Iranian ship and informed the Sri Lankan air force and both launched a search and rescue operation, he said.

Considering the damage and that the ship was probably not running with their watertight doors shut, I’m surprises they were able to get a signal out at all.

Rescue boats that reached the site did not see the ship and observed only an oil slick, Sampath said, adding that the incident took place outside Sri Lankan waters but Colombo was still committed to providing support.

That’s fine. I can’t see the United States violating Sri Lanka’s waters to sink that tube anyway. Search and rescue after the event is also fine. Now the Fox News story has a picture of the ship as it was hit by the torpedo. Basically, it blew the stern clean off. The second picture was the ships with it’s bow in the air and going down by the stern.

I’m sure we’re going to see all the usual suspects, such as the Eurotrash, Progressives, Liberals, Democrats and a couple of RINO’s screaming about how unfair all this is. To that I say

I suspect that sometime in the next 6-8 weeks an American nuclear sub, either a Los Angeles or a Virginia class, is going to be seen coming into port with a broom tied to the periscope. This is the traditional sign that the sub as “Swept the enemy from the seas.” Congratulations to the United States Navy and to the Silent Service.
