Greetings everyone, this is the Angry Systems Administrator. I’ve been working on the back end of this pathetic little blog since the hard crash that took down the site after the upgrade to WordPress 7.1. I posted a Root Cause Analysis on the causes and corrective actions taken over the weekend.

One of the things I had to do was remove old, no longer supported plugins. One of these was the one we used under our contact pages. The original plugin hadn’t been updated in at least 7 years and was no longer available. I’ve just completed installing and setting up the Ninja Forms plugin. It’s probably more than we need, but once it was configured, it will allow people to send us email. Be advised, that is not anonymous when you use the forms.
I’ve also reinstalled wpDisquz for our commenting system. It started failing after an update a year ago. It now appears that it was also experiencing issues with the PHP memory that I had corrected by our hosting service. Unfortunately, all the systems that tied into things like TwitterX, Faceplant and other Socialist Media sites are all expired. It’s going to take some time to get those back up and running.

One of the plugins we had allowed us to send updated to Google’s Feedburner RSS feed system. I’m still looking for a replacement. Granted, RSS feeds are generally not used much anymore, however, I’ve found them useful for things like simple notifications. WordPress has an inbuilt RSS feed system, however I think having some redundancy is a good thing. So, it looks like we’re fully back up and running. Over the weeks and months ahead, I’ll be working on fine tuning things. So far, it looks like the Idiot in Charge completely missed the fact that the blog went down and I’ve been quietly working to bring things back up.
Thank you
~The Angry Systems Administrator~

Oh I know what you did you cave dwelling troll. We will be having a discussion as soon as I finish polishing my brass handheld conversation tools.
Yay sysadmins!
