Brazil election hammers left (Runoff goes the other way)

Good day all. I put this together before the final election, which was just held. How things change.

I generally don’t cover elections outside of the United States for a simple reason. I generally don’t care. However, once in a while, something attracts my attention. In this case, it’s the recent elections in Brazil.

There is a lot going on down there and I will be honest and say I don’t understand most of ins and outs of the political system. I do know that their judges seem to be a problem. One of them decided to go after Elon Musk and TwitterX when Musk shutdown all the censorship regimes when he took over the company. I also know that their courts jailed the previous president. I have no idea of he was actually guilty of anything or not.

In any case, an interesting thing has been happening since USAID was shut down by the Trump Administration after Musk and DOGE audited the agency and found that it was generally nothing more than a slush fund for the Left. Since USAID was turned into a smoking crater, a lot of countries south of the border have suddenly move more to the center right. This is what has happened with Brazil. Here are the details from Newsmax:

Brazil’s right wing has secured control of both chambers of Congress following Sunday’s general elections, marking the latest major advance for conservatives amid a broader political shift across Latin America, Breitbart reported Wednesday. Final results show the Liberal Party and roughly 20 other right-leaning parties winning 276 of the Chamber of Deputies’ 513 seats.

The Liberal Party alone captured 121 seats, up from 99 in 2022, while President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s left-wing Workers’ Party won 70. Conservatives will also hold 49 of the Senate’s 81 seats when the new Congress takes office in 2027.

I have no idea about any of these parties. It’s south America and like most Americans, I’m in the “Who cares?” camp. Still, I understand that this is a major reversal, and one I think was probably started in Argentina when Javier Melei won office and started ripping the guts out of their government bureaucracy. Now Argentina’s economy is greatly improving. Other countries saw this and the people appear to have said, “Well, if they did it, why can’t we?”

Conservative or right-leaning candidates have won presidential contests in Ecuador, Bolivia, Honduras, Chile, Costa Rica, Peru, and Colombia since early 2025.

That is a major swing. For decades, we have seen South America moving more to the left, and their economies suffering as a result. This is one of the reasons that the Crime Cartels have gained so much power in south and central America.

Analysts have attributed the shift to factors including crime, economic dissatisfaction, corruption concerns and voter fatigue with incumbent governments.

I suspect that was also a factor. Central and South America are well known for their corruption at all levels of government. With the crime cartels, the levels of violence have grown astronomically. With the new conservative governments both working with the Trump Administration and taking the leash off their own forces, things appear to be turning around. However, there might also be an additional explanation for this swing to the center/right.

The winning streak has also generated a more controversial explanation among Trump allies: that it coincides with the administration’s dismantling of the U.S. Agency for International Development.

“Since we gutted USAID, the left hasn’t won a single presidential election in Latin America,” Donald Trump Jr. wrote this week. He alleged U.S. taxpayer money had financed NGOs, democracy programs and activist networks that favored the political left, calling it “election interference.”

One of the things that the DOGE audit found out was just how much money, allegedly to help promote democracy, was actually being funneled into left wing, in many cases Socialist or even communist parties. This was not what the intent was, and so the doors were closed, the usual suspects on the American Left screamed, ranted, raved and ran off to their pet COB judges to force the Administration to reopen USAID. They failed and In think a couple may have gone to jail as well.

RealClearPolitics noted this week that the Latin American left has suffered an extraordinary string of electoral defeats following USAID’s dismantling, while other conservative outlets have pointed to the sequence of right-wing victories as evidence warranting scrutiny of the agency’s previous funding of civil-society organizations.

Funny how that everything suddenly changed once USAID was closed. Of course, that agency was as corrupt as Al Capone. The election in Brazil is just the latest in a two year course of elections in central and south America. As for what happens now in Brazil, I don’t know.

I suspect that their black robed judicial tyrants are going to getting a virtual anal probe now. Brazil has the potential to have the largest economy in South America. If the new government does what Argentina has been doing, they sky’s the limit. I also see much better relations with the United States now that the Moonbats are not ruining running things.

***UPDATE***

I didn’t realize that the runoff would happen as quickly as it did. It looks like the Brazilian courts, which back the leftist leader, may have played some games. This allowed the current president, Lulu da Silva to win. I haven’t had a chance to go through everything, but I understand that there are calls from the conservative candidate to look into what happened.
