Good day all. I wrote this prior to the midterm disaster. Things are in flux with the recent uptick of unpleasantness between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the rest of the world. The IRGC, (Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corpse), and the Iranian government don’t seem to be talking to each other and the IRGC is still flipping drones and missiles into the Strait of Hormuz.
President Trump has said that there won’t be any new attacks until after the midterms. This has led to a great deal of criticism, and what I believe to be not a lot of tactical and strategic thinking. What President Trump says and what he actually does, doesn’t always match. It’s also possible that the United States is working on a new plan and getting weapons in place. That takes time. One of the weapons they are thinking of using is the “Mother Of All Bombs,” aka MOAB. Here are the details from the New York Post:
The US military has developed strike plans that could include dropping the “mother of all bombs” on Iranian energy infrastructure and nuclear targets if President Trump green-lights additional attacks on the regime, according to a report Thursday.
A GBU-43/B Massive Ordnance Air Blast (MOAB) bomb – the largest non-nuclear explosive the US has ever detonated in combat – has not been used since 2017 when it was dropped on an ISIS cave and tunnel complex in Afghanistan and its use would mark a significant escalation in Washington’s 7 ½ month war with Tehran.
The use on the Taliban was basically a live fire test on actual targets. As I recall, it pretty much obliterated the Taliban in that area. I think we’re long past time to use it on Iran. Now one of the usual “Anonymous sources” so beloved by CNN told them that President Trump has told the military to put together a strike package that targets Iranian infrastructure.
Another source claimed a MOAB – which contains 18,700 pounds of high explosives—could be used in attacks on Pickaxe Mountain, the regime’s hidden fortress located near the Natanz nuclear facility that President Trump has previously threatened to bomb. There has never been any indication of nuclear activity at the site, but experts say it’s “large enough” to “hold a centrifuge enrichment plant.”
I don’t know that area, however, if it’s buried underground, it isn’t the sort of target you use a MOAB on. For underground bunkers, you would use what they call a massive ordnance penetrator, or a bunker buster. However, for anything on the surface, or where there are caves or tunnels, a MOAB can do a lot of damage.
The White House hasn’t ruled out potentially detonating a MOAB.
“President Trump keeps all options on the table to ensure that Iran can never have a nuclear weapon,” an official said, refusing to comment on the plans.
The MOAB is a weapon with a specific use. It isn’t a nuclear weapon, but within certain parameters, it sure acts like one in some aspects. It doesn’t have the massive thermal pulse of a nuke, but it does have a large blast radius. Also, since this is a thermobaric weapon, is burns up all the oxygen in the target area. Basically, it will blow you up, suffocate you and blow out your lungs all in one go.
It’s unclear if such strikes would happen. Trump has vowed to hold off resuming attacks on Iran before the Nov. 3 midterms.
Trump is seeking an end to the conflict, which is at a stalemate despite boasting to supporters at a Montana rally Wednesday that Iran’s military has been decimated.
It’s not really at a stalemate. Iran’s military capability has been thoroughly wrecked. They still have some drones and missiles. It does appear that China and Russia may be sending them some weapons as well. The one thing President Trump hasn’t done is turn Iran into a technological dead zone. That would mean destroying things like power plants, water supply infrastructures, food, and transportation networks. Basically what we did to Germany and Japan in World War Two, just more completely. (Today’s systems replace 100 B-17’s with just a few laser guided bombs or JDAMS)
There are also reports that the Iranians might have just gotten tired of being machinegunned in bulk by the IRGC and have started fighting back. If this is the case, I suspect that certain types of people who may either speak Hebrew or wear funny green French hats have been visiting Iran and providing some party favors to the Persians.
The Democrats, who have become actual enemies of the United States, are basically backing Iran. They don’t care that Iran was very close to what they needed to start building nuclear weapons. They like to say this is “Trump’s War,” when, in fact, Iran declared war on the United States and Israel almost 50 years ago and has been killing Americans ever since. President Trump is just the first President since Reagan to do anything about it. What he needs to do is finish the job, once and for all. If dropping a few MOAB’s can do that, I’m all for it.
