Trying out new Share buttons

Greetings everyone. This is the Angry Systems Administrator bringing you an update on the back end of the blog. For once, nothing is catastrophically broken. However, you may have noticed a change on the share this post buttons.

There is a reason for this. We have been using a plugin called Sassy Social Share. It was basic, but it had the widest variety of socialist media sites. The other day I had to disable it, at least for now. The reason? A security scan notified me there was an unresolved bug in the plugin that might allow bad things to happen.

I spent a few hours researching other sharing plugins and finally landed on one called Share Buttons & AI-powered summaries. Unfortunately, it doesn’t have links to MeWe, Gab or GETTR. What it does have are connectors to several AI services. I’ve been playing around with it and trying out the various AI systems. The results are….interesting to say the least.

I’ve been trying out the various AI connectors. All of them, at least in regards to the Angry Idiot Webmaster state this this is political commentary, which is accurate. However, the way the AI’s are reporting indicates to me that they are…disappointed. Some of the AI platforms appear to be partisan in their responses. Others appear to be trying to be neutral. I’ll let you test them out and decide for yourselves.

There are several Social Media platforms that I have not activated. I really see no reason to connect this to LinkedIn for instance. That is supposed to be a business site and there is nothing businesslike about the Angry Buffoon Webmaster. (I really hope the Angry Webmaster finds a new job soon. My supply of coffee is dropping daily) A couple of other Social Media platforms are one’s that I have never heard of. These would be Raindrop, Mastodon and Line. I also didn’t include Pinterest since I see that is a picture/video site. If you think these should be included, leave a comment.

On the AI selections, I left out DeepSeek, Mistral AI, Perplexity and Qwen. Again, I don’t know anything about them so I didn’t select them. If you think they should be included. Just leave a comment and we will look into it.

Another feature of the plugin, which I’m finding rather interesting, is the Analytic module. From what I’m seeing, it doesn’t include any personal information or locations. Just numbers, what app button was used and which posting it was used under. I consider these to be “Nice to haves” and nothing critical.

I’ve been trying to find out if Sassy Social Share is going to be updated. It no longer appears in the plugin repository and the web site is loading nothing but a blank page. It won’t be the first plugin we’ve used that was no longer supported. I’ve removed it to fully clear the security message I’ve been seeing. I will keep looking at the various social media sharing apps, concentrating on one that don’t cost anything. You may see multiple and repetitive social media buttons showing up and disappearing as I try out different plugins. For now, we will be using Share Buttons & AI-powered summaries for the time being.

Thank you
