I haven’t written anything about Operation Fast & Furious since it was still developing. Now, something else has come up.
For those of you living in a cave, or Berkeley, California, Operation Fast & Furious was a subset of Project Gunrunner. Gunrunner was an ongoing operation by the BATFE ((Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives)) to catch and arrest criminals illegally buying guns using what is called a straw purchase. ((Straw Purchase explained)) Fast & Furious, (Henceforth known as FF) was allegedly a plan to track illegal gun sales to the Mexican drug Cartels. There was one minor detail. The guns weren’t actually being tracked at all.
The upshot of this disaster was the murder of Border patrol Agent Brian A. Terry. One of the weapons that had been allowed to “Walk” to Mexico was found at the scene. As of this posting it still isn’t known if this was the murder weapon. When word got out that the BATFE had been allowing these weapons to be sold, the feces hit the high speed impeller.
There are several investigations ongoing in Congress over this, the best known being run by Rep Darrel Issa. He has been demanding documents from the Justice department and has been stonewalled by the Obama administration. Even with that, it’s slowly becoming apparent that knowledge of this reached into the White House.
It’s now just gotten a lot worse for the Obama Administration. It seems that they BATFE didn’t just allow guns to be sold, (Over the objections of both lower ranked BATFE agents and gun stores), but apparently was selling guns to the cartels directly.
From Fox News:
U.S. Government Used Taxpayer Funds to Buy, Sell Weapons During ‘Fast and Furious,’ Documents Show.
Not only did U.S. officials approve, allow and assist in the sale of more than 2,000 guns to the Sinaloa cartel — the federal government used taxpayer money to buy semi-automatic weapons, sold them to criminals and then watched as the guns disappeared.
Now if that doesn’t frost your reproductive organs, it gets better.
Operation Fast and Furious began in October 2009. In it, federal agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives encouraged gun stores to sell weapons to an arms smuggling gang, then watched as the guns crossed the border and were used in crimes. Each month, the agency allowed hundreds of guns to go South, despite opposition from some agents. All told, the gang spent more than $1.25 million for the illegal guns. In June 2010, however, the ATF dramatically upped the ante, making the U.S. government the actual “seller” of guns.
Gee whiz, and Obama wants to raise my taxes? What’s he going to do next? Smuggle drugs into the country?
Documents: Obama Admin. Sold Guns to Sinaloa Cartel, Allowed Cocaine into U.S.
The Obama administration, at the highest levels, and likely Attorney General Eric Holder and President Obama themselves, authorized the sale of at least 2,000 high-powered rifles and other sophisticated weapons to the “Sinaloa” Mexican drug cartel. That much we have learned so far in sworn testimony and documents from the “Fast and Furious” investigation by Congressman Darrell Issa’s Congressional Oversight and Government Reform Committee. As bad as the weapons sales are, it doesn’t stop there. It is now learned through sworn affidavits in U.S. District court in Chicago that the U.S. government, at very high levels, “negotiated” to allow tons of Sinaloa cocaine into the country, supposedly in exchange for “information” about other drug gangs. ((Hat tip to Right Wing News))
Well doesn’t THAT take the cake? I’ve joked about the Obama Crime family, but it looks like I wasn’t that far off. Getting back to FF, it seems that some of the BATFE agents were dead set against this, (Gee, I wonder why?), but were overridden buy the senior management. (I won’t call them superior officers since there’s nothing superior about them)
According to documents obtained by Fox News, Agent John Dodson was ordered to buy six semi-automatic Draco pistols — two of those were purchased at the Lone Wolf gun store in Peoria, Ariz. An unusual sale, Dodson was sent to the store with a letter of approval from David Voth, an ATF group supervisor. Dodson then sold the weapons to known illegal buyers, while fellow agents watched from their cars nearby. This was not a “buy-bust” or a sting operation, where police sell to a buyer and then arrest them immediately afterward. In this case, agents were “ordered” to let the sale go through and follow the weapons to a stash house.
You would think that Agent Dodson was rather unhappy about these orders. You would be right.
According to sources directly involved in the case, Dodson felt strongly that the weapons should not be abandoned and the stash house should remain under 24-hour surveillance. However, Voth disagreed and ordered the surveillance team to return to the office. Dodson refused, and for six days in the desert heat kept the house under watch, defying direct orders from Voth.
Good for Agent Dodson. It’s nice to see at least one professional agent in that disgrace of a law enforcement agency.
According to a story posted Sunday on a website dedicated to covering Fast and Furious, Voth gave Dodson the assignment to “dirty him up,” since Dodson had become the most vocal critic of the operation. ((The Sipsey Street Irregulars))
“I think Dodson demanded the letter from Voth to cover both himself and the FFL (Federal Firearm Licensee). He didn’t want to be hung out to dry by Voth,” a source told the website “Sipsey Street Irregulars.”
Subsequent to this undercover operation, sources told Sipsey, “Dodson just about came apart all over them (his supervisors). In a ‘screaming match’ that was heard throughout the Phoenix office by many employees, Dodson yelled at Voth and Assistant Special Agent in Charge George Gillett, ‘Why not just go direct and empty out the (ATF) arms room?” (to the cartels), or words to that effect.’
You would think that Dodson would be rewarded. You would be wrong of course.
After the confrontation, ATF managers transferred Dodson to a more menial job. Months later, after the death of Border Patrol agent Brian Terry, Dodson blew the whistle and went public about the federal government’s gunrunning operation.
So why did this whole mess happen? It looks like an attempt by Eric Holder and Barack Obama to cause an incident and force through extreme gun control laws. Early in his administration, Obama stated that most of the guns being used in Mexico were bought in the United States. This was a lie of course and it looks like Operation Fast and Furious was designed to make that lie the truth.
The Watergate scandal ((Watergate)) caused Richard Nixon to resign. He was close to being impeached from office and decided to do the right thing. The only reason he wasn’t prosecuted was the pardon issued him by Gerald Ford. The one major difference between these two scandals? No one was killed during the Watergate break in.
As more and more information on this mess comes out, watch the Mainly stupid Media try and cover it up. Obama is probably going to be a one term president, (Unless the Democrats steal the election), and the next president will have no choice but to prosecute him and a fair number of his administration.
We need to hear the words, “What did the president know and when did he know it?” ((Senator Howard Baker)) Of course, with the Democrats running the Senate, it will be impossible to do anything about Obama. It will have to wait until he is out of office and both houses are returned to the grown ups.
I can’t say I’ll be following this for you but keep your eyes and ears open. Head over to the Sipsey Street Irregulars since they seem to be on top of this whole fiasco.
That is all.
