Merry Christmas from Barack Obama, Now pay up

Ok, when I first read this I thought it was a joke. The Obama administration is now imposing a tax on Christmas trees.

No, I am NOT kidding. The story made the headline on the Drudge Report. The link goes to the Heritage Foundations blog and shows a story titled “Obama Couldn’t Wait: His New Christmas Tree Tax” was written by David S. Addington and you have to read it to believe it.

President Obama’s Agriculture Department today announced that it will impose a new 15-cent charge on all fresh Christmas trees—the Christmas Tree Tax—to support a new Federal program to improve the image and marketing of Christmas trees.

Merry Kwanza from the Obama Regime! You want to have a Christmas tree? Pay up slaves! Now why is The One doing this? Easy answer. Because he wants to. The real reason is even stupider. The Agriculture department decided to create a phony baloney bureau called the Christmas Tree Promotion Board.

Yes I have a hard time with this myself.

In the Federal Register of November 8, 2011, Acting Administrator of Agricultural Marketing David R. Shipman announced that the Secretary of Agriculture will appoint a Christmas Tree Promotion Board. The purpose of the Board is to run a “program of promotion, research, evaluation, and information designed to strengthen the Christmas tree industry’s position in the marketplace; maintain and expend existing markets for Christmas trees; and to carry out programs, plans, and projects designed to provide maximum benefits to the Christmas tree industry” (7 CFR 1214.46(n)). And the program of “information” is to include efforts to “enhance the image of Christmas trees and the Christmas tree industry in the United States” (7 CFR 1214.10).

In other words this is one of those “Shovel Ready Jobs” Obama is always mooing about. We must make sure all those useless liberals have good jobs at good wages!

To pay for the new Federal Christmas tree image improvement and marketing program, the Department of Agriculture imposed a 15-cent fee on all sales of fresh Christmas trees by sellers of more than 500 trees per year (7 CFR 1214.52). And, of course, the Christmas tree sellers are free to pass along the 15-cent Federal fee to consumers who buy their Christmas trees.

In the spirit of the season of course.

The timing for this is just perfect of course. Once again the Obama Regime has shown their tin ears again. (Tin? Try lead!). Nothing is to good for the Progressive intelligentsia that thinks they should rule the nation. Besides, THEY don’t buy Christmas trees. Christmas is for those dummies who are clinging to their bibles.

Well, it seems that Obama suddenly had an attack of common sense. I’m sure their treating him for it now, but he has decided to delay the 15-cent tax on Christmas trees. Not stop mind you, but delay.

Now I do have one final question. Why do we still have an Agriculture Department? I think this agency has long since outlived its usefulness and it’s time to shut it down. I wonder how many billions of dollars we can save?

Merry Christmas! (That will be $0.15 to Obama thank you)

  5. Just a note. I started working on this post this morning but had to stop and go to work. (Unlike your typical OWS type of course) I was a bit disappointed that Obama wimped out and delayed the tax. I was really going to have fun ripping his Imperiousness. 😉
