Schwarzenegger for President?

When I first saw this headline I thought it was something from The Onion. No, it was from the New York Post. Failed California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger wants to run for president of the United States.

Fresh off his latest box office flop with Sylvester Stallone, Escape Plan, which is being kept in solitary confinement, Schwarzenegger has decided to run for President. Now there is this smallish issue of Schwarzenegger not being a native born American citizen. In fact, there is actually no question about it. He is a naturalized citizen and is ineligible to hold the office of President or Vice-President. Well, Arnold wants to do something about this. According to the New York Post:

Action star and former California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has been lobbying for support to change the law to allow him to run for president in 2016, Page Six has exclusively learned.

Small problem there Bud. It’s not a law, it will require amending the Constitution, and unlike the movie Demolition Man,this isn’t happening.

One source said: “Schwarzenegger has been talking openly about working on getting the constitutional rules changed so he can run for president in 2016. He is ready to file legal paperwork to challenge the rules.”

Any lawyer who allows Schwarzenegger to try and get this overturned in court needs to be disbarred for eternity. Any judge that doesn’t promptly laugh it out needs to be removed for utter stupidity.

Columbia University Law School professor Michael Dorf, an expert in constitutional law, said about the Governator’s case in 2007, “The law is very clear, but it’s not 100 percent clear that the courts would enforce that law rather than leave it to the political process.”

Oh I can’t think of a faster way to get the shooting started then some moronic judge allowing this inept hack to run for President. The Constitution is rather explicit on this subject.

Clause 5: Qualifications for office

No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States.

The only part of this that qualifies Schwarzenegger is his rather advanced age. He is most certainly NOT a native born American and that clown from Columbia, Michael Dorf knows this. If he even thinks for one minute that the courts will go against this, then he needs to be fired and stripped of his credentials.

Mayor Mike Bloomberg has spoken playfully about forming a presidential ticket with Schwarzenegger.

“There would be a fight to see who would be the presidential candidate and who would be the vice presidential candidate,” Bloomberg quipped a few years back. “He would want to arm-wrestle for the top spot; I would want to check the Constitution.”

Not that His Royal Shortness gives a damn about the Constitution, but even this would be a pretty blatant overreach by the judicial branch. Schwarzenegger should just stick to making bad, outdated movies and try to forget what a dismal record his tenure as governor was. He had a chance to set things right, and he caved in. Time to send the Terminator to the recycling center. He’s hopelessly out of date.
