Good day all, this is the VERY Angry Systems Administrator. If you have seen this morning’s updates on the main site, then you will have an idea why I am rather furious. About a month ago there was a new release of WordPress which we use to power the blog.
Right off the bat I noticed a few issues with some of the plugins, starting with Disqus, which we use instead of the built in comments system WordPress uses. The update seems to have serious compatibility problems with Disqus and I was forced to disable it until a fix is made.
You are also aware that after the move to a new server, the Add page on the main site went toes up. I’ve been working on that, trying to see what is going on with it. I suspect it’s either a path or permissions issue and I am continuing to work on it as time allows. I wasn’t racing to find a fix since the Angry Webmaster repointed all the links to the Add page to the backup form we have on the Blog. Since that form is completely separate from the one on the main site, and has worked consistently since it was installed, neither the Angry Webmaster or myself thought to check it.
We should have. There is no excuse, we both screwed the pooch and Lassie isn’t to happy about that! We were informed via our Facebook fan page that the Captcha on the Blog’s add page was malfunctioning. This caught both of us by surprise and I started looking into it first thing this morning. Lo and Behold, the damn Captcha will not validate even when you input the correct answer. I went to the developer’s forum and found that someone had reported the exact same issue.
At the time, there was no response to the posting and I disabled the Captcha on the Add page. I’ve just checked again and response with a fix was posted. I instituted the fix and have tested the form and it does seem to be working now. Please accept my apologies for this debacle. All I can think of is that whoever did this release of WordPress is also the one who handled the Healthcare.gov website. I’m still looking for a fix for the Disqus comments system and will put it in place as soon as I can.
Thank you for your patience.
