Egypt stealing plans for Aircraft Carrier?

Good day all, this came out either late Friday or early yesterday. A naval engineer has been arrested for trying to sell the plans to the new Ford Class carriers to Egyptian intelligence.

The engineer, a naturalized American from Saudi Arabia stole the plans and gave them to an FBI agent posing as an Egyptian spy. They also discussed how to sink the new class of carriers with missiles. Here are some of the details from Fox News:

A Naval engineer is facing charges that he gave an FBI undercover agent posing as an Egyptian intelligence officer secret documents about the new Gerald R. Ford aircraft carrier while discussing how to sink the vessel with a missile.

Now the Ford class ((Gerald R. Ford-class aircraft carrier)) is the successor to the Nimitz class ((Nimitz-class aircraft carrier)) carriers that we have been building since the 1970’s. There are ten planned with three currently under construction or in the case of the USS Ford, undergoing final fitting out before going through acceptance testing. The Ford is due to join the Fleet in 2016. According to the Fox News story, the FBI’s affidavit was something from a Tom Clancy novel.

Federal prosecutors in Virginia say that during his conversations with the undercover, Awwad arranged to use a dead-drop location along a secluded hiking trail to pass secrets about the Ford, which is being built in Virginia for delivery to the Navy in 2016. The affidavit says that at a hotel meeting on Oct. 9 Awwad gave the undercover drawings of the aircraft carrier that he said were top secret. During the meeting, “Awwad discussed where to strike the vessel with a missile in order to sink it,” the affidavit says.

Now I’m not a naval engineer, but the United States has a lot of experience in preventing a carrier from being sunk. The last carrier we lost was in World War Two. Several have been damaged over the decades, usually due to accidents, but putting a modern super-carrier on the bottom is not as simple as hitting it with a missile…unless that missile is nuclear tipped of course. Needless to say, Awwad was not a happy camper when they slapped the cuffs on him.

The Virginian Pilot said Saturday that Awwad cried as he was led into the courtroom for a brief hearing before a federal magistrate judge in Norfolk. He wore a pink collared shirts, sweater vest and tan pants, the paper said.

You should have thought of what could happen if you were caught you goat fornicator. So how did this scumbag get access to top secret plans? From my point of view, he had always planned to do something like this.

The affidavit says Awwad was born in Saudia Arabia and married a U.S. citizen in Cairo in 2007. After his marriage he took steps to become an American citizen. The court papers also say the Navy hired Awwad to work in the Norfolk Naval Shipyard’s nuclear engineering and planning department in February and that he got a security clearance in August.

He got his clearance in August? I figure a month or so to find what he was looking for, then another month or so to make the arrangements to steal the plans and try to get them to a not very friendly power. This jughead was moving fast, making me think that he was always some sort of sleeper agent. My question is, Who the Hell was handling the security background checks? Moe, Larry or Curly ((The Three Stooges))?

The FBI sting began in September when the undercover contacted Awwad. The court papers do not say why Awwad became a target.

Hmm, this makes me think they were on to this clown from the very beginning. They might have toggled to something during the background checks, but weren’t certain enough to block his clearance. Basically, they gave him some rope and let him hang himself with it. If he were an actual naturalized patriotic American, he would have reported the contact from “Yousef” the “Egyptian Intelligence Agent” right away. That wasn’t what he actually did.

During their first meeting in a park in Hampton, Va., Awwad explained to “Yousef” that he intended to use his position to obtain military technology for use by the Egyptian government, including but not limited to, the designs of the USS Gerald Ford nuclear aircraft carrier.

Yep, this is looking more and more like Awwad was always meant to be a deep cover mole.

The day after Thanksgiving Awwad was observed in his Navy office holding what appeared to be aircraft design schematics which he placed on the floor and photographed.

Who the heck still uses paper blueprints these days? You only print out blueprints if you’re actually working on a section of the ship, usually as a construction worker. Even then, they should have some sort of computer or tablet handy. I know that the naval construction companies have been using computer design systems since before the Virginia class subs were built. Awwad should have just been able to download the data to a hard drive or SSD card. Photographing blueprints is so 1960’s. So what’s Awwad looking at?

The indictment accuses Awwad of two counts of attempted exportation of defense articles and technical data. Each count is punishable by 20 years in prison.

Is that all? I would call it espionage and treason since he did become a citizen. He shouldn’t be getting 20 years per count, he should be hanged by the neck until dead. Another thing that wasn’t mentioned in the story is Awwad’s religion. Since he’s Saudi, I think it’s a safe bet that he’s a member of the “Religion of Peace” (My Ass).

When are people going to understand that Islam is a political movement masquerading as a religion and that their goal is world domination? Probably right after Obama announces that Islam is now the official religion of the United States after he cancels the 2016 presidential election. (Ok, I admit I threw that in to increase the value of my shares in tin foil hat manufacturers) In any case, Mostafa Ahmed Awwad needs to spend the rest of his life in the worst supermax prison we have, unless the Justice Department grows a pair, properly charges him and seeks the death penalty. Yeah, that won’t happen.
