Good day all and welcome to 2015. I hope you all had a good time at the parties you no doubt attended. I did, for the first time in years. As you might expect, I slept later than usual, especially since I didn’t get home until close to 1am. Mrs. Webmaster had to work last night and was out cold when I returned.
This morning, I started working my way through the various stories when I came across one on Fox about Botched Environmental Predictions for 2015. Some of the predictions are dull, but others are quite amusing in their utter failure. For instance, we have one from Dr. Paul Erlich ((Paul Ralph Elich)).
When it comes to wrong predictions, Dr. Erlich leads the class. For instance:
Dr. Erlich warned in his 1981 book “Extinction,” was that all rainforest species would likely soon go extinct due to environmental destruction. “Half of the populations and species in tropical moist forests would be extinct early in the next century [the 2000s] and none would be left by 2025,” he warns on page 291 (In his book Extinction). He added that that his model indicated that, on the upper bound, complete extinction would occur as soon as 2010.
Elsewhere in the book, he also wrote that his model’s assumptions were “more realistic” than those typically used and that “unless appropriate steps are taken soon… humanity faces a catastrophe fully as serious as an all-out thermonuclear war.”
Last I checked, not only were the rain forest species not going extinct, they’ve been finding more and more new species. Erlich is what is known as a Malthusean ((Malthusianism)). Basically, he believes that unless we significantly reduce the number of people on the planet, we’re ALL DOOMED! I haven’t read anything by him in decades and don’t remember much. I suspect it was something I was assigned to read in school by a moonbat teacher. If I do recall correctly, people like him want draconian population controls that make China’s one child policy look mild in comparison. I seem to recall another person who had ideas regarding population controls and determining who would be a valued member of society.
Then we have a Student and Teacher’s guide from Pennsylvania. According to this document:
“Some estimates of the oil reserves suggest that by the year 2015 we will have used all of our accessible oil supply.”
Funny, I seem to recall that the price if oil is plummeting due to massive new finds and technologies to get it out of the ground.
Yet the Earth still has oil: at least 1.6 trillion gallons of proven reserves, according to the Energy Information Administration, a US government agency. In fact, proven reserves have more than doubled over the last couple decades, as technological innovation made more oil accessible.
The guide is on the website of the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection. Department spokesman Eric Shirk told FoxNews.com that the prediction was “obviously wrong” but added that the guide mostly consists of practical information on how to recycle oil that is still current.
Well gee whiz batbrain, don’t you think you should update it to match the known facts? And then we have this gem that’s was touted by Al Gore.
“Peter Wadhams, who heads the Polar Ocean Physics Group at the University of Cambridge… believes that the Arctic is likely to become ice-free before 2020 and possibly as early as 2015,” Yale Environment 360 reported in 2012.
Yeah, right, and how’s that working out?
Yet government data shows that arctic sea ice has increased since then. At its lowest point during 2014, sea ice covered about 1.7 million square miles — an area nearly half the size of the United States.
And what did Mr. Wadhams have to say regarding his predictions?
Wadhams did not respond to a request for comment Wednesday morning.
I suspect he’s snowed in at his new beach front bungalow in Point Barrow, Alaska. And speaking of moonbats, we have this prediction by the White House Director of the Offices of Science and Technology Policy, Dr. John Holdren.
Paul Ehrlich cites Holdren in his 1987 book “The Machinery of Nature”, noting that: “As University of California physicist John Holdren has said, it is possible that carbon dioxide climate-induced famines could kill as many as a billion people before the year 2020.”
Oh, that’s right. Holdren and Erlich are “Birds of a feather” when it comes to hating humanity. When contacted, Holdren had this to say:
Holdren told FoxNews.com that he does not view that as a prediction. “As accurately reflected in the quoted passage, my statement in the 1980s about potential impacts of climate change on food production by 2020 was not a ‘prediction’ or a ‘forecast.’ It was, precisely, a statement about what ‘is possible,’ ” he wrote in an email to FoxNews.com.
Funny, it looks like a prediction to me. And to show just how incompetent and stupid this guy is. Do you know what CO2 is? It’s plant food. Trees, bushes and all those vegetables that we eat love Carbon Dioxide. They convert it into food for themselves and oxygen for us to breathe. I guess his degrees in physics make him very qualified in things like botany and farming.
Besides these “misstatements,” we have the big one known as “Global Warming.” As you recall, 10-15 years ago, it was predicted that if we didn’t basically end modern civilization and eliminate 90% of the human race, the planet would look like Venus right about now. When that didn’t happen, the moonbats renamed Global Warming into “Climate Change.” They still wanted modern civilization destroyed and the remaining humans, those that were selected to survive the pogroms, to live like the cavemen did. Only the ruling elites would be allowed modern conveniences like electricity and medicine.
One of the interesting things about these groups and people, besides being dead wrong, is that their answers to nonexistent problems generally involve totalitarian government with rule by the educated elites, (themselves of course), and with everyone else reduced to abject poverty and serfdom. Funny about that isn’t it?
It’s freezing cold out there, and there are snow storms in Southern California. Snow? Not in the mountains out there? Ok, lets see you explain your way out of that one Al Gore.
May you all have a prosperous new year, unless you believe all the crap being dished out by the idiots above. Then I would recommend crawling into your underground lair and waiting out the end of the world. Meantime, I think I’m going to Denny’s for a nice turkey dinner.
