When planning a robbery, don’t Google “How to escape”

Good day all. This week’s entry in the “Stupid Criminals of the Week, we have a pair of bright bulbs who were planning on robbing a bank and then googled how they could get away.

These two criminal masterminds were, of course, captured. Here are the amusing details from Fox News:

A pair of would-be bank robbers who ‘Googled’ how to escape a bank robbery were caught minutes after a bungled heist in which they escaped with a lowly $597, authorities say.

The Coloradoan reports that Kody Davis, 33, and Amanda Davis, 31, both from Texas, allegedly discussed how to rob a bank after losing their money gambling while moving to Colorado.

Ok, first I think that the Great State of Texas is overjoyed that these two decided to move away from Texas before beginning their short-lived criminal careers. Second, I would guess that they were moving to Colorado for the atmosphere. They probably wanted to inhale as much second hand pot smoke as they could. Being stoned out of their minds is the only explanation I can come up with their utter stupidity.

Amanda Davis – referred to as Menard in the unsealed arrest affidavits — then “Googled how people got caught after bank robberies on her phone.” She also searched various bank locations, settling on the Great Western Bank in Fort Collins — just north of Denver — as “a good bank to rob,” according to the affidavits.

On March 18, Menard allegedly handed the teller in the bank a note that said “Take money out and put it in the bag” and a leather bag. After Menard left with the money, the teller screamed “The lady just took my money! I’ve been robbed.”

Police chased the couple’s car, allegedly driven by Davis at speeds of up to 120 mph, until Davis drove over spikes just north of the state border.

So much for Butthead and Clod. I wonder what the first answers in a Google search on how to escape after robbing a bank are? Hmmm, yep. Not so very helpful there.

Davis and Menard were charged with criminal conspiracy, robbery and theft. Davis was also charged with vehicular eluding and reckless driving. Davis later told Larimer County Sheriff’s Office investigators that he pays $3,000 a month in child support and he and Menard were “tired of living poor.

Not that it excuses robbing a bank, but $3000 does seem a bit excessive. However, I have no children and I’m happily married to Mrs. Webmaster, so it won’t be an issue…that we have no issue. At least they won’t have to worry about housing, meals or medical care for the next 10-20 years or so.
