Good day all. I’m coming late to this, but better late then never. As we all know, the Main Stream Media is almost exclusively liberal. In many cases, they are outright socialists who claim 1st Amendment protection, but only for themselves.
A case in point is the recent bad Supreme Court ruling on Gay Marriage. Many people have started writing about what a disgrace this ruling is, (Including myself), on may counts. One newspaper/website, PennLive.com, announced last week that as of now, there would be no more letters, Opinion/Editorial, or posts in comments that didn’t accept just how magnificent the ruling was. In other words, they were going to suppress any and all dissent. Well, as you would expect, it exploded in their faces.
In an opinion piece that came out June 26th, PennLive announced that as of right now, all forms of dissent regarding this decision would be blocked. After prancing around saying what a good thing this was, they wrote this little bit:
On Friday, the United States crossed a similar threshold, continuing a long road to acceptance of same-sex unions.
Accepted by Screaming moonbats you mean. The majority of people in this country are opposed to Gay Marriage. Your answer to this was:
And this news organization now crosses another threshold. As a result of Friday’s ruling, PennLive/The Patriot-News will very strictly limit op-Eds and letters to the editor in opposition to same-sex marriage. These unions are now the law of the land. And we will not publish such letters and op-Eds any more than we would publish those that are racist, sexist or anti-Semitic.
Almost immediately PennLive was slammed over their announcement that they would no longer tolerate any dissent to their prized ruling. They started trying to backpedal within hours. First they announced:
We will, however, for a limited time, accept letters and op-Eds on the high court’s decision and its legal merits.
In other words we will deign to listen to a few people who might have a mild disagreement with our decision to ignore anyone who thinks differently from us Beautiful Progressive People. However, people still had a bone to pick with the Editor, John Micek. According to Hot Air:
However, PennLive readers weren’t as enthusiastic, so Micek wanted to express “in the strongest possible terms” what kind of feedback and discussion he was willing to tolerate from the “racist, sexist, or anti-Semitic” readership Micek apparently believes he attracted. Oddly, Micek was surprised by the “unintended consequences” of assuming those who disagreed with him are nothing more than hateful bigots. One of those “unintended consequences” was being called a “fascist,” an accusation that seemingly surprised Micek, even though he was telling everyone that only his opinion would be tolerated in his newspaper.
Liberals are always surprised when their favorite accusations are turned on them. They can’t believe that anyone would accuse them of being fascists, totalitarians, racists or sexists. Why it must be a mistake. Well it wasn’t and PennLive backpedaled even further with this “Apology.”
The apology was basically a “I’m sorry you didn’t understand our brilliance and I’m a victim of people to stupid to recognize my brilliance” sort of column. Ed Morrissey, who wrote the column for Hot Air was having none of it.
We have some major-league goalpost-moving from Micek in his second point. The original editorial didn’t state that PennLive was banning slurs, but any opposition to same-sex marriage. It was the opposition that Micek considered on par with “racist, sexist or anti-Semitic speech,” not just the slurs. Micek is misrepresenting the position he had taken less than 24 hours earlier in order to falsely position himself as a victim. He’s basically rewriting history.
Welcome to Liberal Land Ed. You know perfectly well that Liberals are delusional and will rewrite things to make themselves feel good. It’s like a mainlining Heroin to an addict. Still, Ed continued slamming Micek for his arrogance.
So … where was the apology? It comes at the end, via Washington DC and every other politician who’s ever had to grudgingly retreat from their own stupidity:
But for those of you who were offended by what was intended as a very genuine attempt at fostering a civil discussion, I apologize.
Fostering a civil discussion? To have a discussion, you need to have people with different viewpoints. Micek only wants to hear from people who think as he does. Ed picked right up on that.
Ah yes, the standard “sorry if you were offended by my brilliance” non-apology. How exactly is telling people to shut up “fostering a civil discussion”? How does offering a blanket smear of all critics of Obergefell as bigots qualify as “a very genuine attempt” at any kind of discussion? For that matter, how did Micek envision a “discussion” coming from his all-out ban on any opposing view in his newspaper? At the end of all this, Micek then offers an apology — not for his actions, not for all of his mean-spirited and sanctimonious posing, but because we turned out to be not quite as stupid as Micek believed we were.
Maybe Micek should stick with Play-Doh.
The blasts at PennLive and Micek looked like an Arclight raid by a squadron of B52’s. It’s obvious that the Progressive Fascist Liberals at PennLive still don’t understand that they made a pretty big mistake. There is a reason News organizations are generally referred to as the “Mostly Stupid Media. It’s pulling boneheaded plays like this. Is it any wonder that the old MSM news organizations are looking at bankruptcy and failure? People no longer believe them and go to the Internet to seek out other sources of information, such as HotAir.com.
