And the next Speaker of the House will be…

Good day all. A little over a week ago, John “Crybaby” Boehner, decided people weren’t being nice to him and announced that he was going to quit Congress. This set off the question of who was going to take the corrupt drunk’s place.

The heir apparent was Boehner’s buddy, Senate Majority leader Kevin McCarthy. However, it wasn’t the smooth saling to the speakership that the Pundits and RINO’s thought it would be. Many people saw McCarthy as just a paler and more sober John Boehner. This led to a couple of others announcing their intentions to go for the Chair.

Then in a surprise move, McCarthy announced he was no longer interested in being Speaker of the House. This came right after a Wikipedia update was posted by the Department of Homeland Security stating that McCarthy was boinking another member of Congress. Whether this is true or not, it finished him.

Last night I was watching some of the Beltway Boneheads as they tried to come to grips with what was happening. Since I had an interesting comic book to read, I didn’t pay all that much attention to them. What I did see was a complete misunderstanding of what is going on.

We are seeing a fight for the Republican Party. For decades, the Establishment Republicans, (also called the Country Club Republicans), have fought the various conservative groups tooth and nail. The last truly conservative president was Ronald Reagan, and as soon as he left office, the RINO’s regained control and promptly returned to their usual “Go along to Get along” way of doing things.

This led to the rise of the Tea Party and other Constitutional Conservative groups. Over the last few election cycles, they have been collecting RINO scalps in various primaries. The biggest one was Eric Cantor who lost his primary to a collage professor who had never run for office. (He went on to win Cantor’s seat)

Now that McCarthy is out, people are speculating who will be the next speaker. Boehner is pressuring Paul Ryan to run for the position, however Ryan is resisting. Over the last few years, he’s been observed growing the “Horn of the RINO” and might not win. There are a couple of others looking at tossing their hats into the ring, all of whom scare the crap out of the RINO’s.

The Constitution states that the House of Representatives shall choose their Speaker. Traditionally, this is usually a member of the majority party in the House, but it isn’t a requirement for the speaker to be an elected member. I was listening to the Howie Carr Show yesterday and he had a caller come on who flat out stated that we were now going to be a dictatorship since there was discussions about appointing a non-member of the House of Representatives. Mr. Carr tried to explain to the caller that this was constitutional, but the caller wasn’t listening. I wanted to call in and tell Mr. Carr not to waste his time, that you just can’t fix stupid and that caller was a complete hosehead. (Didn’t matter which party he supports either)

A number of names have been floated to be the next Speaker. Newt Gingrich, who was speaker in the 90’s. Mitt Romney was another potential speaker. (Why anyone wants that failure is beyond me) One I would love to see is former Representative Allen West. Of course, Mrs. West would have to give her approval and I suspect she won’t. (Can’t blame her really)

This morning, I saw another name mentioned that I could get behind. He is also a current member of the House of Representatives. That would be Representative Justin Amash. He was a Tea Party candidate, conservative and, unlike most of the others, has never missed a vote. He also understands all the rules of the House and he always posts his reasons for voting on a bill.

This weekend should be interesting, especially with the talking heads on Sunday’s news shows. I won’t pay much attention to them, since they basically vomit the Democrat party line. The Republicans for the most part will either be very cagey or just jump in with both feet. You will also have the Democrats “helping” by handing out as many shovels as they can to let the GOP keep digging a deeper hole for themselves.

holes

Personally, I don’t think the Democrats understand what’s happening here. They’ve grown so out of touch with reality that they’ve become a caricature of a political party. If the GOP appoints a truly principled and competent conservative to the Speaker’s chair, they are going to get their heads handed to them. Whatever happens, it’s going to be an interesting show.
