University of Texas Professor quits in fear of armed students

Good day all, This story came out last week. It seems a true shrinking violet of a collage professor is so terrified of the sheep having guns, that he resigned from the University of Texas.

Barking Moonbat

This pathetic liberal Progressive snowflake pretending to be an educator handed in his notice because he’s afraid that a law abiding student, exercising his or her rights, would shoot him. Here are the amusing details on this from Breitbart:

UT Professor Emeritus Daniel Hamermesh sent a letter of resignation to UT President Gregory Fenves saying that he would not be honoring his agreement with the university to teach during the fall 2016 and 2017 school sessions, according to The Daily Texan. He told Fenves in his letter that he is not comfortable with the risk of having a student shoot at him in class after the Campus Carry Law goes into effect on August 1, 2016.

double-facepalm

The new law will allow students, teachers and others, over the age of 21, who have a Concealed Handgun License (CHL) to enter classrooms with a concealed handgun (with certain exceptions). The law currently allows CHL holders to carry on campus. They are currently restricted from entering any classrooms with the concealed handguns at this time.

Ronald Reagan, the great Liberator

There is a reason that Texas passed a law letting qualified, law abiding people carry concealed firearms into the classroom. That reason was very dramatically explained at another university in Oregon a week ago. Of course, Professor Coward doesn’t see it that way.

With a huge group of students, my perception is that the risk that a disgruntled student might bring a gun into the classroom and start shooting at me has been substantially enhanced by the concealed-carry law,” Professor Hamermesh wrote in the letter detailing his reasons for leaving.

stupid-gun-free

“Apparently the professor thinks that a person that is angry enough over his grades to come into a classroom and shoot a professor would be intimidated enough by a law prohibiting a concealed handgun to change his mind and not shoot,” said Texas State Representative Allen Fletcher (R-Cypress), the House sponsor of the Campus Carry Law (SB11), in an interview with Breitbart Texas on Tuesday.

Well Representative, you know how Moonbats think. If there’s a law saying you can’t kill someone and signs posted, why you will be perfectly safe.

“I can just see the thought process,” Fletcher explained. “A student is so angry that he is about to fail a class and lose his scholarship that he decides he is going to shoot the professor. Then he sees the ‘gun free zone’ sign and says ‘Oh, I better not do that because it’s against the law to carry my gun in there.’”

eye roll

“The reality is,” the law’s author continued, “that criminals will go into the classroom, as evidenced recently in Oregon’s gun free classroom, and do what criminals do – break the law.” “There is simply no evidence to back up the professor’s fears,” Fletcher concluded.

Since when has evidence matter to liberal progressives? After all, this snowflake teaches economics. Why I would wager he think the economy is in great shape thanks to Obama.

As the bill’s author, Fletcher listened to hours of testimony from professors and law enforcement officials who expounded on the fears of classroom shootings if this bill passed. Fletcher is a retired police officer. He said he constantly reminded those officials that there is nearly twenty years of factual data on Texas CHL holders that disproves their unfounded fears.

Yep, every time a state legislature starts restoring the Second Amendment rights of their citizens, the Progressive Liberals come out and start screaming “Gunfights in the streets! Blood everywhere! Children being dragged from schoolyards and machine-gunned!” Of course, when pressed to provide evidence of this happening, well, the crickets begin chirping. Anyway, where will professor Chicken be teaching next year?

Hamermesh told President Fenves that instead of honoring his contractual commitment to the university, he will instead be teaching at the University of Sydney next fall.

man with head in the ground

So he’s moving to Australia? Yes, that would be perfect for him. Nice, progressive, a disarmed population, totally law abiding, with everyone walking along happy and in perfect safety knowing that no crime will be committed since it’s illegal to commit crimes. Or is it? According to the Australia 2013 Crime and Safety Report for Sydney:

The overall crime situation in Sydney and throughout Australia is rated at the “Medium” threat level by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Diplomatic Security. Although crime in Sydney is statistically lower when compared to major cities in the United States, crime and violent crime are routine occurrences.

Hmmm, I sense a little bias here. Just for your information, if Chicago, New York, Los Angeles and I think Baltimore are dropped from the statistics, the United States crime rate plummets. (I am prepared to be corrected on this of course)

The most common crimes encountered by Australians, foreign residents, and tourists alike are assaults (non-domestic) and breaking and entering. Local police have attributed a majority of burglaries and robberies to growing problems with substance abuse throughout Sydney and its suburbs.

Burglaries are also a problem here, but burglars generally want to avoid running into anyone. Still, there must be no crimes committed with those evil guns, right?

Armed robberies also occur, and while firearms are sometimes used, the more common weapon utilized is a knife or other cutting implement, which also accounts for 35 percent of murders. The state of New South Wales (NSW), in which Sydney is located, saw a spike in gun-related violence in April 2012, with 34 shootings. Most of these incidents involved drive-by and targeted shootings stemming from outlaw motorcycle gang turf wars and drug-related disputes with organized crime gangs.

Yep, nice and safe there for Professor Snowflake. He even tells everyone that no one will come to Texas to teach anymore because of this restoration of constitutional rights to the Citizens of Texas.

My guess is somebody thinking about coming to Texas is going to think twice about being a professor here,” Hamermesh wrote. “It’s going to make it more difficult for Texas to compete in the market for faculty.”

Gunny Lock & Load

Not everyone agrees with Professor Pipsqueek.

“I think it is exactly the opposite,” Fletcher responded. “After seeing the shooting incidents at gun free campuses in Oregon and Virginia, perhaps a classroom in Texas, where a law abiding citizen might be able to stop a madman with a gun by shooting him with their own gun, might just seem to be a better and safer decision.”

We’ve seen time and time again where criminals go into a school knowing they won’t get shot by a staffer or a student and then slaughtering dozens of people. We’ve also seen many instances where students and teachers try to protect the others by charging the criminals or taking a bullet trying to protect their students. Somehow, I don’t see this schmuck doing anything else but running away and using his students as human shields. Texas is well rid of him.
