Good day all. Yesterday, a police video was released regarding a shooting that took place a year ago in Chicago. Basically, a 17 year old, Laquan McDonald, apparently stoned on PCP was shot in the back by a Chicago police officer.
The officer was charged with 1st degree murder and is now being held without bail pending trial. I haven’t seen the video, but from what I’ve read, the “victim” was not responding to police, (Big surprise), may have been holding a small knife and was wandering around. The officer claimed that he felt his life was in danger, however the video showed that Laquan McDonald not only wasn’t approaching him or the other officers, but was actually turned away and not walking towards anyone.
The 2 shots to the back, along with the fact that the officer emptied his sidearm into him after he went down, (The reports indicate you could see bullet strikes on the ground in the video), pretty much puts paid to a justified shooting.
So, problem solved. The officer is fired, he’s under arrest and will stand trial. Justice is being served and although Laquan McDonald is dead, it looks like his killer will be punished. Except we do have a problem. Protestors showed up and started protesting and pulling their usual stunts of interfering with people who were just going about their business. Here are some of the details from Fox News:
Protesters largely honored calls for restraint Tuesday after the release of a dash-cam video showing a a white Chicago police officer shooting and killing a black teenager, with few arrests reported and only brief disruptions to city traffic. City officials and community leaders had long braced for the footage of the death of 17-year-old Laquan McDonald at the hands of Officer Jason Van Dyke, who was charged with murder earlier Tuesday. They feared the kind of turmoil that occurred in cities such as Baltimore and Ferguson, Missouri, after young black men were slain by police or died in police custody.
The very fact that they had to “Brace for turmoil” even though the prosecutors determined that a crime had been committed tells me we have a bunch of anarchists who really aren’t interested in justice, they just want to see the world burn.
Shortly after the video’s release, protesters began marching through city streets. Several hundred people blocked traffic on the near West Side. Some circled police cars in an intersection and chanted “16 shots.” Demonstrators, at times numbering in the hundreds, streamed through streets in the downtown and near South Side areas, gathering at one point outside the police department’s District 1 headquarters.
I’m going to ask it. Are these people stupid? The system is working as designed. A bad cop is now off the streets and will have his day in court to answer the charges brought against him. No, I think they want trouble.
Later, along Michigan Avenue, at least one person was detained, which led to a tense moment as protesters tried to prevent police from taking him away. Some threw plastic water bottles at officers and sat behind a police vehicle, refusing to move. Officers pulled them away, and the vehicle sped off. The Chicago Tribune reported that at least three people were detained by police, while one officer was taken to an ambulance with minor injuries.
This is becoming the Standard Operating procedure for a group known as “Black Lives Matter.” It started about a year ago when there were a spate of police involved deaths of black suspects. The one that started it all was the Ferguson incident where a black thug attacked a police officer and got shot for his troubles.
As we’ve since learned, the punk was totally responsible. However, the so called “Civil Rights Leaders” decided to not bother waiting for the investigation and started riots instead. Then we had an incident in New York where a man was choked out by a police officer and who died from the actions. The officer was cleared in what a lot of people, myself included, consider to be a very questionable decision.
Then we had the Baltimore incident and the fiasco of the Mayor letting the rioters basically loot and burn the city. Thanks to her incompetence, along with the incompetence of the City Attorney, I’m not sure we’ll ever find out what really happened. Since then, we have had the Black Lives Matter bozo’s coming out and blocking traffic, threatening police and anyone who might disagree with them.
Just how bad has this become? Former governor Martin “I taxed rain!” O’Malley, who is running for president, was confronted by Black Lives Matter activists with a demand to acknowledge that black lives matter. He made the mistake of saying all lives matter, and this set off the perpetually offended class. O’Malley quickly backed down.
What this and other incidents by the “Black Lives Matter” crowd shows me is that they are nothing more than a Black Supremacist group and absolutely no different from the Ku Klux Klan. They have no problem at all with white, Hispanic or Asians being killed by police, and have nothing to say about black on black murders. Now there is a reaction beginning.
There has been an incident in Minneapolis. From what I’ve been reading, and I only discovered this today, there was a shooting by police of a man of recent African decent. The investigation into that shooting is ongoing. As is the usual case these days, the Black Lives Matter group set up camp, literally to protest everything. This time someone showed up and began filming them. The incident is being covered by Powerline Blog, which is based in Minnesota. The long and short is that shots have been fired and people hit. The story is still developing. Here is what Powerline Blog has reported to date.
I wrote earlier today about the fact that last night, five of the protesters were shot, none critically, by three men whom the protesters described as “white supremacists.” I am not aware of any evidence to support that characterization, but the press has largely repeated it. (One of the two men arrested today was described as Hispanic.) In my earlier post, I included a video of an interview with two protesters who witnessed the events leading up to the shootings.
Another video of witnesses to the event has now emerged, and it tells a quite different story. These witnesses say that the three men were trying to film the demonstrators and their camp. A group of protesters that considerably outnumbered the three approached them and demanded that they take off their masks. (Some of the protesters were also wearing masks.) The three men refused, and the protesters continued to confront them. The witnesses describe punches being thrown by the protesters on, if I understand them correctly, four occasions. The three men retreated, but the protesters chased them. One of these witnesses saw one or more of the three men reach for a weapon, and warned the others that the men were armed and they shouldn’t pursue them. But the mob continued to chase the three, and at some point one or more of the three men opened fire on the protesters.
There is a video embedded in the Powerline Blog post. Please review it at your leisure. To continue:
Was it self-defense? It certainly could be. As far as I know, no information has emerged about the state of affairs immediately before the shootings. But it is plausible that the three men could reasonably have feared that the mob would inflict great bodily harm, in which case they were entitled to use deadly force in self-defense. Of course, we know nothing about whether any or all of the three men had permits to carry firearms. And the men did not help their case by fleeing the scene.
As Mr. Hinderaker noted, this may turn out to be a case of self defense. The Black Lives Matter organization has shown itself to be quite capable of violence and being chased by a mob that seems to want to kill you might make you think it was time to “Pull out Old Roscoe.” That someone saw the gun being drawn and called out a warning implies to me that there was a bit of time between the draw and the shots being fired.
Normally, when in that situation, a person will draw and start firing within a second or two. (People who carry guns and have gone through training classes are taught that you do not pull a gun unless you are going to fire it. If you watch crime videos where a citizen shoots a criminal, you will see that it happens very fast) I suspect, and the investigation will determine, that whoever drew may have hesitated and hoped that displaying the firearm would stop the presumed assault. It obviously didn’t and now five Black Lives Matter protesters have discovered that an Armed Citizen is probably a lot better shot than a cop and won’t hesitate the way a police officer might in a similar situation.
If the Black Lives Matter movement continues down the path they’ve been going, they are going to trigger a backlash no one wants to see. The best thing that can happen is that the “Power Structure” that pushes groups like the Black Lives, (And no one else’s), Matter starts pulling them back. The problem is that Black racists and their Guilty White Liberal supporters have taken over and are actively pushing for a confrontation.
They might want to consider what the results will be if the people they’ve been threatening, Whites, Asians, Hispanics and those of recent African decent who don’t subscribe to the Black Supremacists views, decide that enough is enough. I can tell you, it will not be pretty. Best to avoid it, and so the Black Lives Matter morons should start expanding their base and renaming themselves “All Lives Matter.” We’ll all be better for it.
