Good day all. I saw this story come out Thursday. It seems that another Presidential Candidate on the Democrat side is now being investigated for criminal activities.
This one is the former Governor of Maryland, Martin “I tax Rain” O’Malley. It seems that he pulled a Clinton when he left office and cleaned out the Governors mansion of all the furniture he bought un the States credit card. Here are the details from the Baltimore Sun:
The Anne Arundel County state’s attorney is investigating former Gov. Martin O’Malley‘s discounted, tax-free purchase last year of taxpayer-owned furniture from the governor’s mansion in Annapolis. The probe began shortly after a Baltimore Sun investigation found in September that the Democratic presidential candidate paid $9,638 for 54 mansion furnishings that originally cost taxpayers $62,000. The discounted sale was authorized by outgoing O’Malley administration officials after each item had been classified as “junk.”
What is it with Democrats and stealing the silverware?
O’Malley officials and state Democrats said Anne Arundel County State’s Attorney Wes Adams’ investigation is politically motivated. “This is a bogus political attack that the Maryland Republicans have tried to make stick, and it’s sad that they’re wasting taxpayer resources on it,” O’Malley campaign spokeswoman Haley Morris said in an email.
Funny how whenever it’s the Democrats caught with their hands in the cookie jar, it’s a “Politically motivated attack” but when it’s the Republicans, (And they do have their share of bad apples) it’s always “Proof of the deep corruption of the Republican party.”? Interestingly, this investigation doesn’t seem to have been initiated by Wes Adams’ office.
In mid-October, Maryland Department of General Services Secretary C. Gail Bassette sent “all of the information” about the sale to Adams, according to a copy of an email obtained by The Sun through a public records request. “As the Department of General Services lacks the investigational abilities, this information is provided for your review in connection with any wrong doing,” Bassette wrote to Adams.
I just did a quick Google search of Ms. Bassette. Somehow, I don’t think she is a member of the Vast right wing conspiracy or the Tea Party. I could be wrong of course. The Baltimore Sun asked Adams office for a comment on this investigation, but the weren’t able to respond to the allegations due to policies, which makes sense. However, they did release this statement:
When asked about alleged political motives, Heather Epkins, Adams’ communications director, said that office is legally obligated to investigate the claims. “Our office performs due diligence on any complaint given to us,” Epkins said. “We don’t have the option of picking and choosing.”
So, someone sent them a request to check out O’Malley’s sweetheart deal on the furniture, not because they went looking for a way to shaft O’Malley.
The Department of General Services approved the sale to O’Malley last January despite a policy that forbids private sales of state property to government officials, The Sun found. The agency also did not follow its rule requiring it to solicit bids for such items and did not charge mandated sales tax on the transaction.
Uh oh, looks like someone kissed the donkey here.
Shortly after The Sun investigation, Gov. Larry Hogan ordered the agency to conduct an internal review of policies that allowed the purchase. The Republican governor accused O’Malley of “misleading” Marylanders about the removal of the furnishings, saying the former governor never told him about plans to take items with him when he moved out of the mansion last year on Jan. 15.
Now why would Governor Hogan expect to be informed by O’Malley that he was going to clean out the governors mansion? Wouldn’t that be like the Clintons informing George W. Bush that they were going to clean out the White House when they left? Of course not! The Clintons and O’Malley both have the same Progressive Liberal Fascist Democrat mindset. “It’s all mine! I deserve it!”
The Democrats are going on about how this is all designed to sink O’Malley’s presidential bid, but that’s just silly. O’Malley is in single digits in the polls after Cankles and Comrade Burnie. He never had any chance of winning the election, especially since his record as Mayor of Baltimore, (Complete disaster), and his record as governor, (Even bigger disaster), would have come out in the general election and finished him.
So, we have two out of the three candidates being investigated for various criminal activities. One for grand theft, and the other for corruption and violations of handling classified information. That leaves just Comrade Burnie. Oh wait! It seems that Jane Sanders, Comrade Burnie’s wife, is also facing an investigation for possible bank fraud.
Oh that would be perfect. A criminal indictment hat trick on the Democrat’s side. Wouldn’t it be amusing if, say around June, Cankles and O’Malley were both perp walked into court and Comrade Burnie is trying to explain how his wife is under arrest for bank fraud? (A nice white collar crime) It would definitely make my day.
