Good day all. The other day a court ruled that criminal sanctions can’t be brought against faithless delegates. A number of Never Trumpers and Rinos4Hillary celebrated the decision.
Of course, the devil was in the details. While the government couldn’t punish faithless bound delegates, the GOP still could. It seems the NeverTrumpers missed that part. Now they are planning to overturn the rules binding delegates on the first ballot, and throw Trump out and in his place, nominate John Kasich, governor of Ohio. Here are some of the details from Fox News:
The stop-Trump movement isn’t dead yet — and Ohio Gov. John Kasich could be their last hope. Republicans opposed to Donald Trump’s 2016 bid reportedly are making a fresh pitch for Kasich to step up as an alternative candidate ahead of the party’s convention in Cleveland. Former New Hampshire Sen. Gordon Humphrey asked Kasich allies Sunday to contact the former presidential candidate and urge him to offer himself as an alternative at the convention, according to Cleveland.com.
“Given our shared effort in the Kasich campaign, I am sure you agree,” Humphrey reportedly wrote. “But, John needs encouragement to make the move. Please email John and offer him your encouragement and continued backing. … It’s not going to get better than this, but time is of the essence.”
John Kasich won exactly one primary. That was his home state of Ohio. He lost every other primary. In other words, the RINOS4Hillary want to make a total loser with no support the nominee. I guess they not only want to lose the presidency, but the house and senate as well.
Humphrey’s email highlights a key difficulty the anti-Trump Republican have faced – they don’t have an alternative candidate waiting in the wings as a rallying point for those opposed to the billionaire’s nomination.
Sure they do. It’s Hillary Clinton!
Prominent anti-Trump commentator William Kristol made a similar call on Sunday, calling for either Kasich or 2012 Republican nominee Mitt Romney to step in at the last minute. Kristol previously had tried to convince a number of possible candidates to step up to the plate against Trump, to no avail. He eventually eyed National Review writer David French – who opted not to run.
Because those people know that they can’t win, and that Kristol and the others are smoking crack.
Kasich has remained coy about his plans, telling The Washington Post he has no plans to endorse Trump or speak at the convention, but that he is not shutting down his political operation.
“I’m not shutting my political operation down,” the governor of the host state said. “I’m not closing any doors. But my focus right now is going to be on the House, the Senate, and the down-ticket here in my state.”
Kasich lost the primaries for a very simple reason. He is an establishment candidate who basically believes in the power of the state over the rights of the individual people. As governor, he’s basically followed the Democrat playbook over the objections of his own legislature. He has zero chance of winning the presidential election. There is also another problem for the NeverTrumpers. It’s changing the rules prior to the convention to steal the nomination from Trump.
The anti-Trump movement also faces a hurdle in party rules binding delegates to the candidate they were assigned by their state contests. To have a chance at the convention, supporters have to convince the GOP Rules Committee to change those rules in order to allow delegates to vote their conscience.
Vote their conscience. Oh I like that. What it means is the elites will ignore the will of the GOP base, who chose Donald Trump, and instead shove another RINO loser down their throats.
Politico reports that anti-Trump delegates led by Colorado’s Kendal Unruh are trying to scrape together support for a so-called “conscience clause” at the convention. Unruh told Fox News Tuesday that the rules committee delegations from five states, as well as two individuals, are preparing to announce their support for a rule change, and that she has the support of more than a dozen others.
Let’s take a look at Colorado, shall we? That was the state that tore up the ballots of every single Republican voter in the primary and chose who they wanted in a backroom deal. As I recall, Unruh and others in the Colorado GOP Establishment had to go into hiding because of the threats against them. I guess he hasn’t learned his lesson.
This brings up a major problem that the NeverTrumpers and the RINOS4Hillary are ignoring. Trump won because the voters were sick and tired of the RINO Establishment. If, by some miracle, they force Trump out and put either Romney or Kasich on the ticket, it will be the end of the Republican party as a viable political organization.
The NeverTrumpers like to claim that Trump is the one who will destroy the party. They claim Trump isn’t a “True Conservative like Ronald Reagan.” Trump never claimed to be one. And the fact is, the NeverTrumpers and the RINOS4Hillary never were conservatives, either Reagan conservatives or any other type of conservative. They seem to have forgotten that when Bush 1 took office, he promptly began undoing everything Reagan had done.
In every single election since Bush 1 was crushed, the RINO’s forced “Electable Moderates” on the party, and they lost every single time. Bush 2 won by pretending to be a conservative and lying to the voters. The only reason he wasn’t a single term president was the 9/11 attack. If that hadn’t happened, he would have lost in 2004. The only thing “Conservative” about the NeverTrumpers and the RINOS4Hillary is their desire to conserve THEIR privileges and positions.
If they succeed in forcing Trump out, then they might find their positions changed in ways they never anticipated. I understand that you tend to swing back and forth when hanged from a tree. Fortunately, the RINOS4Hillary and the NeverTrumpers are getting slapped down hard by the RNC. They have decided that their best course of action is to aid Donald Trump and to crush the Democrats. Something the NeverTrumpers and RINOS4Hillary can’t be bothered with.
