Trump to Acting AG: “You’re Fired!”

Good day all. Last weekend, President Trump issued an Executive order temporarily suspending immigration/travel from several countries that have been busy creating terrorists. There was some confusion with the order and one Judge issued a temporary, limited restraining order.

The confusion was partially due to the skeleton staff that President Trump is working with, and the fact that no one actually believed he would keep his campaign promises. Trump’s EO, which enforces laws and builds on a travel ban implemented by the former President, Barack Obama, has sparked the usual protests from the usual moonbats.

The Moonbats promptly announced that they were going to fight the executive order in court. Normally, when a law or EO is challenged, the Department of Justice handles the case from the point of view of the administration. However, the new Attorney General, Jeff Sessions, hasn’t been confirmed yet, and the DoJ is being managed by an Obama appointee as acting AG. Or was. The Acting AG, Sally Yates, announced that she would refuse to defend the EO in court. It didn’t end well for her. Here are some details from Fox News, (And others):

President Donald Trump relieved acting Attorney General Sally Yates of her duties Monday night after she directed Justice Department attorneys not to defend Trump’s controversial executive refugee and immigration ban.

Yates, a holdover from the Obama administration, was replaced by Dana Boente, the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia. Boente, 62, was sworn in Monday evening. He will lead the Justice Department pending the confirmation of Sen. Jeff Sessions, Trump’s nominee for attorney general, by the Senate.

Well, that didn’t take long now, did it?

Yates said in a memo earlier Monday that she was “not convinced” that Trump’s order was lawful, nor that its defense was consistent with what she described as the department’s obligation to “always seek justice and stand for what is right.”

Just what did she think was going to happen? Obviously, she thought that President Trump would cave in and revoke his EO. Instead, he revoked Yates. Here is the statement released to the media after her replacement, Dana Boente was sworn in:

The acting Attorney General, Sally Yates, has betrayed the Department of Justice by refusing to enforce a legal order designed to protect the citizens of the United States. This order was approved as to form and legality by the Department of Justice Office of Legal Counsel.

Ms. Yates is an Obama Administration appointee who is weak on borders and very weak on illegal immigration.

It is time to get serious about protecting our country. Calling for tougher vetting for individuals travelling from seven dangerous places is not extreme. It is reasonable and necessary to protect our country.

Tonight, President Trump relieved Ms. Yates of her duties and subsequently named Dana Boente, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, to serve as Acting Attorney General until Senator Jeff Sessions is finally confirmed by the Senate, where he is being wrongly held up by Democrat senators for strictly political reasons.

I am honored to serve President Trump in this role until Senator Sessions is confirmed. I will defend and enforce the laws of our country to ensure that our people and our nation are protected,” said Dana Boente, Acting Attorney General.

Trump fired Sally Yates, the acting attorney general and an Obama appointee, in dramatic fashion after she refused to defend in court his refugee and immigration ban. The Wall Street Journal reported that Yates learned of her firing Monday evening in a hand-delivered note from the White House’s Office of Personnel.

Oh to be a fly on the wall when the knock came at her door. There was none of this “Asked to resign” nonsense. It was a straight out termination for cause from her position. While the Progressive Democrats are comparing her to Archibald Cox, she’s anything but. She outright refused to do her job, and she was shown the door.

I have no doubt Yates will land on her feet. She will be considered “The Darling of the Progressives” for her “Brave resistance to the Evil President Trump” in his goal to, you know, keep out terrorists. This fool will no doubt end up in some lefty law firm somewhere. However, what this firing should do is wake up the bureaucrats in all the agencies that think they can just ignore whatever President Trump orders, or whatever Congress does. Those days are now over.

The really amusing thing here is that current immigration law gives the president the power to summarily block immigration from any place or by any group he chooses.

There are rumors that some staffers are crying over this. They apparently don’t really want to have to obey orders but they also don’t want to get fired and lose their cushy overpaid jobs/pensions/bennies/etc…. apparently leaving them somewhat paralyzed and overcome with emotion.

Can’t guarantee it’s true of course… but I do hope it is! Because it’s LONG overdue.
