The latest in Right to Work

Good day all. Right to Work laws have been passed in a majority of the states in America. There have been a several variations, but all have one thing in common. The Unions really hate them.

Now, another state has joined in the Right for people to work without having to pay some union for the privilege. After several attempts, Missouri has become the latest state to kick the Unions in the groin. Here are the details from Fox News:

Republican Gov. Eric Greitens signed legislation on Monday, (February 6, 2017), making Missouri the latest “right-to-work” state, as the growing movement sets its sights next on New Hampshire – hoping to break into one of the labor unions’ last remaining strongholds.

Legislation advancing in the New Hampshire capital, if approved, would make the state the first in the Northeast to go “right-to-work.” The measure, which bars unions from forcing employees to join or pay dues, is set for a vote in the state’s House next week – after having passed the Senate.

This has the potential to directly affect yours truly, me. Anger Central is based in New Hampshire. Now the nature of my career usually precludes me from having to join a union. However, in my recent search for gainful employment, I interviewed for a position in Boston.

When I sat down to talk with everyone, they mentioned that they had just unionized. While I didn’t get the job, being forced to join a union, especially with the pay levels being below the industry standard, thanks to the union contract, might just have been enough to keep me from taking the job had it been offered. I have passed on other openings because I would have been forced into a union against my will.

The push is the latest sign of labor unions’ diminishing clout, and how Republican gains at the state level are having a broad impact on policy, amid support for such legislation from the Trump White House.

Now here we have an interesting situation. In New Hampshire, we have 2 idiot representatives and two moonbat senators. (Our RINO was defeated in a close vote. Frankly, no great loss) However, the Republicans increased the number of seats in our legislature and also won the governors office. That was some rather odd ticket splitting. (Felonia von Pantsuit also carried the state narrowly)

But even though Republicans won the governorship in New Hampshire last November, the right-to-work bill is still a toss-up in Concord. State Republican Rep. Stephen Schmidt, chairman of the House labor committee, said some Republicans are not supporting the bill. While he personally backs it, Schmidt voiced doubts about the bill’s passage, saying it could come down to one or two votes.

I believe it will be a very tight vote one way or another,” he told Fox News.

This isn’t the first time a Right to Work bill passed both houses and was sent to the governor’s desk.

Should the bill make it to Republican Gov. Chris Sununu’s desk, he is expected to sign it. A similar measure had moved through the legislature in 2011, but had been vetoed by then-Gov. John Lynch, a Democrat.

You can always count on the Democrats to obey their paymasters in the Unions. As for the unions? They’re pulling their usual garbage about “Helping the working Americans.”

The local branch of the AFL-CIO said the bill would only inhibit working families’ ability to bargain for what’s best for them.

This bill will silence the teachers who advocate on behalf of smaller class sizes for our children, the transportation employees who negotiate for the equipment they need to keep the roads clear after a blizzard and the police and firefighters who negotiate for the staffing levels they need to keep us safe,” the New Hampshire union said.

What the Unions are really terrified of is a repeat of what’s been happening in other states when a right to work law is implemented. Their membership can’t wait to tear up their union cards and beat feet out the door of the union halls. In Wisconsin, which had a major fight over the Right to Work law they passed, several union locals collapsed when the entire membership quit. Obviously, the union leadership isn’t taking the hint.

Despite stiff resistance from unions, the right-to work-movement shows little sign of slowing down. Indiana, Michigan, Wisconsin and West Virginia have passed similar legislation in the last five years, in addition to Kentucky and now Missouri.

If these laws weren’t popular, then he politicians who enacted them would be voted out of office. There have been attempts at recall elections, the governor of Wisconsin being the most notable, and each attempt has failed miserably.

Some Republicans in Congress also are pushing national versions. Last week, Rep. Joe Wilson, R-S.C., introduced the National Right to Work Act, which would amend the National Labor Relations Act to give American workers the “right” not to be forced to join a union or pay union dues.

Right-to-work states, like South Carolina, have seen first-hand that job creation and economic growth comes from expanded freedoms. We need to expand common-sense reforms, like those in the National Right to Work Act to protect American workers and create jobs,” Wilson said.

Like at the state level, the move is likely to face significant pushback from labor unions.

Right to work is a lie dressed up in a feel-good slogan. It doesn’t give workers freedom—instead, it weakens our right to join together and bargain for better wages and working conditions,” AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka said in a statement responding to Wilson’s legislation.

Well Dickie, the thing about Right to work laws is that they don’t outlaw unions. They just take away the coercion that you’ve used for decades to enrich yourselves. If the employees at a company want to unionize, they still can. The problem for you Dickie, is that the unions no longer provide any real benefits, (in most cases), to the working people. In fact, you’ve actually hurt working people.

Trumka accused Republicans of trying to kill off organized labor.

Its end goal is to destroy unions. Numbers don’t lie. Workers in states with right to work laws have wages that are 12 percent lower. That’s because unions raise wages for all workers, not just our members,” he said.

Your union is in the process of self destructing. Do you know why wages are low? There are a number of reasons. For Information Technology workers, (Such as myself), it’s the expansion of the H1B visas and their use to drive wages lower as well as replace American workers with foreign temp workers. Where have you been on all that?

Then there have been all the so called “Free trade” deals that have freely traded our manufacturing jobs right out of the United States. How about the massive levels of regulations that a company has to deal with? Obamacare, which, as I recall, you backed, has cost millions of jobs. Yeah, unions have been a real help for the working man and woman.

It’s time for you to face facts. The day of the union in America is basically over. Unions were formed back in the lat 19th and early 20th centuries for real issues. Everything those people fought for is now codified into law. All you’re doing now is keeping companies from being able to compete, and some cases, driving them overseas or out of business.

Now if you can show workers that you actually do care about them, rather then pushing a minimum wage that isn’t justified which cause employers to look at robots, then maybe, unions will survive. Frankly, I don’t see that happening with the current crop of union leaders. Why not ask the United Mine Workers how well supporting Obama worked out for them? Stick the fork in, you’re all done.
