Sacramento Stupid

Good day all. We have some real stupidity coming out of California this week. Granted, due to the huge amounts of stupidity, the bar for really stupid, when it comes to California is very high. This one come close to the top. The bright bulbs running the city have decided paying Danegeld to the criminal gangs is a great idea.

First, for those of you who have gone to public school and then into the American university system, allow me to explain what Danegeld is. According to Wikipedia:

The Danegeld (/?de?n.??ld/; “Danish tax”, literally “Dane tribute”) was a tax raised to pay tribute to the Viking raiders to save a land from being ravaged. It was called the geld or gafol in eleventh-century sources.

It was characteristic of royal policy in both England and Francia during the ninth through eleventh centuries, collected both as tributary, to buy off the attackers, and as stipendiary, to pay the defensive forces.

The term Danegeld did not appear until the early twelfth century. In Anglo-Saxon England tribute payments to the Danes was known as gafol and the levy raised to support the standing army, for the defence of the realm, was known as heregeld (army-tax).

Now you might be wondering just what does this have to do with the recent policies of Sacramento California? Simply put, the City leaders have decided that the best way to stop gangs from rampaging around like the Vikings is to buy them off. Here are the details from Fox News:

How bad has gun violence gotten in Sacramento, Calif.? City leaders now plan to pay gang members $1.5 million for a cease-fire.

Following a fatal shooting last weekend in a city park, the Sacramento city council unanimously approved a controversial program called Advance Peace in an effort to address a recent spike in violence.

And just what is “Advance Peace?” Does it involve sending in a Navy SEAL team to put paid to the gang bangers? Not hardly.

The program offers gang members cash stipends for graduating from school and generally staying out of trouble.

Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg requested that the vote be moved up in response to the park shooting, which left one person dead and four injured, Fox 40 reported. The vote was supposed to take place in two weeks.

“Let’s get going on doing everything we can to save innocent lives,” Steinberg told Fox 40.

In Sacramento, the city council voted 9-0 in favor of the program, but the language of the contract has not been finalized.

Not everyone is on board with this idiocy.

“How’s the vote going to change anything? It’s up to the community to change. You know what I mean? It’s just senseless,” Allen Brown, a friend of Ernie Cadena, 49, who was killed in the park shooting Sunday, told Fox 40.

It isn’t. This is just more Proglodyte “Feel Good” legislation. Like all Moonbats, Morons and Idiots, but I’m repeating myself again, they fail to learn from history. The problem with trying to buy off criminals is they just don’t stay bought. It didn’t work in Europe with the Viking raiders and it isn’t going to work in Sacramento.

This is just another form of appeasement, and it’s going to work about as well as it always does. Not at all. You want to shut down the gangs? Stop coddling them and start jailing them. Yes, I know, this is California. Out there, the only people who are punished are the hard working taxpayers. But then, raping the taxpayers and law abiding has never been a problem for the Progressives. This will fail of course, and more innocent people will be hurt.

Perhaps the Sacramento City government might want to try reading a poem by that “Dead White Male” Rudyard Kipling. He had something to say on the subject of Danegeld.

It is wrong to put temptation in the path of any nation,
???For fear they should succumb and go astray;
So when you are requested to pay up or be molested,
You will find it better policy to say: —

“We never pay any-one Dane-geld,
No matter how trifling the cost;
For the end of that game is oppression and shame,
And the nation that plays it is lost!”
