Good day all, this is the Angry Systems Administrator. Recently, CBS announced that it was launching a “Reimaged version of the classic Tom Selleck series, Magnum, P.I. To those, such as myself, who watched the original series, we went WTF, Over?

To say that I am most unhappy would be an understatement. What really angers me is how they are reimaging it. It’s going to go full on Politically Correct. To begin with, they will be changing the character of Sargent Major, (Ret.) Jonathon Higgins into a former female MI6 agent.

Other things I’ve read and seen indicate that the iconic Ferrari used by Tom Selleck in the original series is going to be wrecked, repeatedly. The one thing Selleck’s Magnum did was take care of that car. It was a bit of a running joke throughout the original series if he managed to ding it slightly.
One of the boards where this came up mentioned that the original idea was to have Thomas Magnum’s daughter as the lead. For those who may not recall, Thomas Magnum had a 6 year old daughter named Lily at the end of the series. If the morons in Hollywierd had followed through with that idea, this series might actually be worth watching.
This is the problem with Hollyweird these days. They’ve run out of original ideas, so they’re dusting off the scripts from past successful shows, updating them a bit and then putting them out there. Usually they fail miserably. Two that haven’t, (One surprisingly), is Hawaii 5-0. It’s about to start it’s 9th season.
Another series that was “Reimaged” and actually was better then the original was Battlestar Galactica. I watched the original series and the new series. Of the two, I liked the new version far better. It was one of the few times Hollyweird actually improved something. (I’m waiting for them to come out with a “Reimaged” Miami Vice that I can sneer at)
I will watch the new version a few times, primarily to have the ability to properly denigrate it. I honestly don’t see how it could succeed. I won’t be at all surprised if they reuse most of the original scripts with appropriate changes and updates. That, from a writers standpoint, would be far easier than actually coming up with a new idea.

Thank you
