More changes to Anger Central coming

Good day all, this is the Angry Systems Administrator. I’m here to update you on a few things going on behind the scenes here at Anger Central.

To begin with, Amazon.com. They have announced some major changes to their affiliate program that, basically, is going to screw over small, low volume web sites such as Anger Central. We’ve been part of the Amazon Affiliate program for a very long time. However, we have seen a significant drop off in revenue from them.

Basically, they haven’t sent us a dime in several years. According to the Amazon Affiliate reports, we have sent a number of people to Amazon and they have spent money. However, Amazon loves to change their Terms and Conditions for affiliates and we just can’t keep up.

In their latest change, Amazon.com has announced they are doing away with what they call CPM ads. Long story short, when we build a link to a product on Amazon, that would be a CPM ad. It allowed us to be more granular in configuring the settings.

Now we have to use something called “Native Ads.” You will have seen a few of these popping up in posts by the Angry Webmaster, usually at the bottom of the post, but before the Disqus comments section. (We might look into retiring Disqus too, but that has yet to be decided)

Above is an example of a Native Ad. We are limited in how we display these. We can select the “Strip” version, which requires a minimum of two selections. Another one, which we will probably use more, requires 4 selections, but does also add a search function to the panel.

Next we have just a straight list. These are links without images, and should load fairly quickly.

What it doesn’t allow is for us to just create a link to the product from within a blog posting. How well these will work, I don’t know. I know that in the last few years, ad revenue has dried up for us. We used to use Chitika, but they basically killed any revenue to us. I suspect it’s due to them becoming “Politically Correct.”

We are still using Infolinks. However, their pop up ads when you move over a link are basically garbage, and we’re considering dropping them as well. We haven’t seen a dime from them in several years either, although we do see them adding a few cents to our account every once in a while.

So, there you have it. The Anger Central Company Store is essentially dead and buried. We aren’t getting any revenues from either the main Anger Central site, or the Musing of the Angry Webmaster. Still, we never expected to get rich off of this site. We do it for the fun, the glory and to piss off Liberals.

Thank you
