Good day all. The militant vegan activists have been demanding that people stop eating meat and embrace veganism. They have been trying to prove that vegetables are better for you then meat. They have put out assorted pseudo meat products that, I will admit, are bad taste wise, but they aren’t meat. Now science is saying the same thing.
Humans are omnivores. This means that we eat a mixed diet of meats and vegetables to take care of all our nutritional requirements. Exclusive diets of one or the other make it very hard to maintain your health. Now science has jumped into this. Here are the details from Fox News:
Plant-based meat alternatives may look and cook like real meat, but scientists say that the nutritional components may not be the same.
Researchers at Duke University compared 36 food samples — 18 of widely known plant-based meat alternatives to 18 grass-fed ground beef options from a ranch in Idaho. For each sample, they measured the number of metabolites, small molecules that make up the nutrients in foods.
And what did they find?
The study, published in the journal Scientific Reports, discovered the beef contained 22 metabolites that the plant-based substitutes did not have. The plant-based meat, meanwhile, contained 31 metabolites that meat did not include. Researchers found the largest disparities were in vitamins, amino acids and types of saturated and unsaturated fatty acids found in both food products among other variables.
One of the things that the veggieburger makers do is “Fortify” their products. By this I mean that they will add nutrients that we humans need that aren’t found naturally in the products.
Alternative meat makers mimic the look, taste and texture of meat with iron-carrying molecules from soy among other ingredients like beets and berries and ramp up the protein with soy, peas and other plant-based ingredients. Additionally, some alternative meat products contain vitamins such as B12 to create a similar nutritional profile to real meat.

The study, however, found that several metabolites proven to be vital to human health were found either exclusively or in greater amounts of beef, including creatine, spermine, anserine, cysteamine, glucosamine, squalene, and the omega-3 fatty acid DHA, researchers said.

“These nutrients are important for our brain and other organs including our muscles,” Stephan van Vliet, a postdoctoral researcher at the Duke Molecular Physiology said in a statement. “But some people on vegan diets (no animal products), can live healthy lives – that’s very clear.”
You mean they can live somewhat healthy lives, but they really have to work at it.
Van Vilet further explained: “To consumers reading nutritional labels, they may appear nutritionally interchangeable,” adding: “But if you peek behind the curtain using metabolomics and look at expanded nutritional profiles, we found that there are large differences between meat and a plant-based meat alternative.”
Consumers should know real meat and alternative meat products are not “nutritionally interchangeable,” Van Vilet noted.
“But that’s not to say that one is better than the other,” van Vliet said in the study, adding: “Plant and animal foods can be complementary because they provide different nutrients.”
No kidding. In case you missed it, I said that humans are omnivores and are bodies are designed to eat a wide variety of plants AND Steaks, Bacon, Burgers, etc. Then there is the logistics of food. You can turn loose a steer and let him munch his way through a field. When it’s dinner time, you kill the steer, carve him up, cook him and eat him.
If you want to eat nothing but veggies, you need to plant them, water them, weed the fields, keep the insects and everything else that will devour your crops, (Including the aforementioned steer), and hope you’ve managed to put the right ones in that will keep you both alive and healthy.
Militant vegans are basically nuts. Not only will they go out of their way not to eat anything that comes from animals, (Including eggs and milk products), they have been known to try and force their pets onto vegan diets. Cats and dogs are not herbivores, they are carnivores and have evolved to live on meat diets. But, as science has shown, if Vegans don’t take care, they suffer the lose of their mental functions due to a lack of certain nutrients found in…wait for it…MEAT!

Years ago, I was working with someone and we noted how thin Steve jobs was in a news story we were watching. (This was before we knew he was terminally ill) We both knew that Jobs was a Vegan and pretty militant about it. (That would explain a few things about him) They guy I was working with concluded a few statements by looking at the picture of Jobs and saying “Hey Steve. EAT A STEAK already!
