Good day all. As expected, the news coming out of the Ukraine is confusing at best with a lot of rumors and misinformation. One rumor is a Ukrainian pilot known as the Ghost of Kyiv who is alleged to have shot down 6 or more Russian aircraft.
On the other end of the spectrum, we have a pair of Ukrainian members of their parliament asking that NATO declare the airspace over the country a No-Fly Zone. Here are those details from Newsmax:
Two members of the Ukrainian Parliament are calling for NATO to announce a military no-fly zone over Ukraine.
Insider reported that Kira Rudik, the leader of Ukraine’s Holos Party, and Ivanna Klympush of the European Solidarity Party said Western sanctions had not worked and called for the no-fly zone.
“It’s about actually sending more military capabilities to Ukraine through any land corridor, and preparing to send troops to Ukraine at some point,” Klympush said. “All of those things have been done in other parts of the world and they saved lives.”
While a lot of people sympathize with the Ukraine and are perfectly willing to send them all the weapons and ammo they can use, they do not want American forces going up against the Russians. Putting fighters into the Ukraine’s airspace to block the Russian Air force would be a major escalation.
If NATO did impose a no-fly zone it would effectively mean that its members, including the U.S. and U.K., would be authorized to shoot down any Russian aircraft that enter the airspace over Ukraine, Insider noted.
There is no way the Russians would stand by and allow NATO and others to block them from using their aircraft. This means air battles between NATO/American planes and Russian planes. This is just not going to happen. What should happen is providing the Ukrainian pilots who may be without aircraft replacements along with the munitions, fuel and parts they need to get into the air.

There are plenty of Migs and other planes available in Poland and the other former Warsaw Pact countries, and since they are starting to replace them with Western built aircraft, handing them over to the Ukrainians and possibly towing them across the border, (To avoid the accusation that they are flying out of NATO bases), then launching them from highways might be a better option.
In any case, the Russians are in a real fight, and things aren’t going as they expected. (No plan survives contact with the enemy) Among the reports is one where a Russian air mobile battalion tried to take an airport near the Capital and was shot to pieces and destroyed. Eventually, we will find out what is happening there. After all Sean Penn is on the case.
