Review: Black Adam

Good day all. I haven’t done a movie review for a while. One of the reasons is that I haven’t been going to movie theaters to see them. Several that I used to go to have gone out of business, thanks to the Fauci Bioweapon and the Panicdemic lock-downs.

Another I go to is still in business. It also provides food and has a liquor license. However, their prices have gone up and the quality of their food has gone down. Because of this, I have been waiting for the movies I’ve been interested in to hit the online streaming services, or the networks I have on my Dish subscription. One of these was the latest release into the DC Universe, Black Adam.

When I first saw that ads for it, I thought it might prove interesting. However, other things took precedence and I missed it in the theaters. It dropped on the Peacock streaming network a couple of weeks ago, and I watched it one evening. That was 2 hours I’ll never see again.

To say that the movie sucked would be an understatement. I am glad that I didn’t waste the $10 seeing it in a theater. Watching it was like watching a slow moving train wreck, wondering if, at the last minute, they would somehow reverse course and not crash and burn.

The actual cinematography wasn’t bad, and the special effects weren’t awful. The script, dialog and acting? There wasn’t any to speak of. Of course, with Dwayne Johnson playing the lead, I wasn’t expecting Shakespearean levels of acting and prose, but the acting was so wooden that I was expecting Johnson to be attacked by a swarm of starving termites.

Even the cameo by Henry Cavill was a complete waste, since it’s been announced that he won’t be playing the role of Superdud Superman any longer. The film cost over $200 million to make and it doesn’t look like it recouped its costs. (Of course, Hollyweird accounting so who knows?) Still, the box office receipts world wide didn’t break $400 million, so once again, we have another bomb in the DC Universe.

They should stick with Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Superman and the occasional Batman. (When they get him right) All these third rate comic book characters that most people don’t know or even care about aren’t going to put a dent into the Marvel Universe. (The Flash is due to come out in 2023 at some point, provided the star is out on bail and available for the promo tour) Well, there are some interesting films coming up this year and I might actually head to the theaters to see them. We shall see.
