Good day all. I don’t think many have missed my contempt of Electric Vehicles such as the Tesla. I consider them to be a dead end technology, and that the probability is that Hydrogen in some form will be the wave of the future. However, the Church of Global Warming and Climate Change insists that EV’s will be the only way people will be allowed to drive.
There are many problems with their religious beliefs of course. To begin with, the current battery technology relies on Lithium, and most of the world’s supply is controlled by the People’s Republic of China. Another issue is that, in spite of the claims by the religious fanatics of the Church of Global Warming and Climate Change, EV’s over their lifetime are far more destructive to the environment then a HUMMWV. Now it turns out that recharging these things actually costs more than filling your tank with good old fashioned gasoline. Here are the details from Fox Business News:
For the first time in more than a year, owners of traditional gas-powered cars saved more money at the pump than those driving their electric counterparts, according to a consulting firm.
As inflated gas prices came down at the end of last years, the fuel cost for most Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) vehicles was comparatively cheaper in the final quarter of 2022 than charging an electric vehicle (EV), analysts with the Anderson Economic Group (AEG) said.
The cost to drive 100 miles in a gas-powered car dropped by more than $2 in October, November and December 2022. And with electricity prices rising last year, mid-priced ICE cars became more economical than EV cars for the first time in 18 months, the firm said.
I think they may be a bit off with their numbers. There are a lot of variables, such as how much time it takes to recharge an EV, it’s actual range and performance, especially in cold weather and the rising costs of electricity since the Moonbats in the White House are doing everything they can to kill off the most efficient power generation systems in favor of windmills and unicorn farts. High on their list is the primary refueling source for EV’s.

AEG’s cost analysis looked at the underlying cost of energy for gas, diesel and electricity, as well as road taxes and fees, added costs to operate pump or EV charger and the cost to drive to a fueling station. The costs were calculated for vehicles driving 12,000 miles per year.
Wait, Electric Vehicles can actually make it 12,000 miles in one year? What about all the time needed to recharge the things, and that’s assuming you can find an actual, dedicated recharging system and not have to plug in an extension cord to an outdoor plug?
Unless you were driving an expensive luxury electric vehicle, you were losing money charging your car versus paying for gas, experts said.
“The run-up in gas prices made EVs look like a bargain during much of 2021 and 2022,” said AEG’s Patrick Anderson. “With electric prices going up and gas prices declining, drivers of traditional ICE vehicles saved a little bit of money in the last quarter of 2022.”
This study doesn’t appear to take into consideration the overall cost of ownership for either an EV or an ICE, (Internal Combustion Engine), powered vehicle. Then there are other little details they skipped over, such as what happens when it gets really cold out. For instance, I wrote up a post regarding some nitwit complaining that he wasn’t able to recharge his Tesla when it was below freezing. The nitwit apparently didn’t understand how batteries work, or in this case, don’t work when it gets extremely cold out.
For a car powered by a gas engine you just start it up and let it warm up a bit. It’s possible that the battery might fail, but if that happens, you just call your friend over with the jumper cables and away you go. Try jump starting a Tesla and see what happens.
One of the reasons that gas prices skyrocketed and continue to be high is all due to Joe Bumbles Dementia Biden’s War on Energy. He, or actually his handlers, have been working to utterly destroy American energy independence and reliability. Now we’re seeing the fallout as electricity prices go through the roof and just how rickety our power grid actually is. Unless we have several major technological breakthroughs, Electric Vehicles will always be short ranged toys, and not something you can rely on, especially when you need to go hundreds of miles very quickly, such as getting out of the path of a hurricane.
