Good day all. It looks like Anheuser-Busch is trying, very belatedly, to staunch the bleeding from the worst marketing campaign since the Schlitz “Drink Schlitz or we will kill you” fiasco.
Over the weekend, Bud Light’s marketing vice president, Alissa Heinerscheid went on a “Leave of absence.” Basically, they are working on terminating her woke butt for costing the company billions of dollars. Now another shoe has dropped. Here are the details from Fox News:
A second Anheuser-Busch marketing executive has taken a leave of absence in the wake of the controversy surrounding its partnership with transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney.
Daniel Blake, who oversees marketing for Anheuser-Busch’s mainstream brands, is also being placed on leave. Over the weekend, news broke that Bud Light‘s marketing VP, Alissa Heinerscheid, had taken a leave of absence amid the backlash to the Mulvaney fallout and a widespread boycott from Bud Light drinkers.
Todd Allen, most recently global vice president of Budweiser, is slated to take over Heinerscheid’s role, but the company has not announced a replacement for Blake.
I can’t say I’m surprised, and I fully expect more people suddenly Going on a “Leave of Absence” that they aren’t likely to return from. From what I’ve been seeing, reading and hearing. Sales of Bud Light have all but stopped and it’s beginning to look like other brands are getting hit by the boycott as well.
It’s going to take a lot for Anheuser-Busch to recover from this mess. While the company has a huge footprint, without question the Fall of Schlitz is in the minds of everyone at the C level of both Anheuser-Busch and InBev. While getting rid of the people who came up with this disaster of a campaign or approved it will be a good start, it’s going to take a lot more to turn things around. Meanwhile, Yuengling is doing very well at Budweiser’s expense. I won’t say “Stick the fork in, Bud’s done” but it isn’t an impossibility.
