Good day all. Things have to be really bad in New York City if people are looking back on the Mayor de Blasio with fondness. His successor, who ran on a platform of not being de Blasio and being competent is showing that he’s even worse.
New York City, like many Progressive Liberal Democrat controlled cities, is a “Sanctuary” city. They will not hand over illegal aliens to Immigration and Customs Enforcement to be deported. For years they’ve had a “Holier then thou” attitude to places like Texas and Florida which have been dealing with the invasion due to Biden’s no borders policy.
Finally, Texas decided to ship illegal aliens to all the Sanctuary cities and states. The idea being “Hey! You want them so much? Here you go!” What happened next was a classic case of virtue signaling gone wrong. When some 50 illegals were flow to Martha’s Vineyard, which is a “Sanctuary island” chock full of rich generally white liberals, they freaked and called out the national guard to deport them to the mainland.
Meanwhile, New York City has seen a large influx of illegals, some being shipped up by Florida and Texas, but most being shipped in by the Biden Maladministration. As expected, it’s hit the breaking point with Adams trying to ship them out to other cities and towns in New York. That hasn’t worked to well, and now Eric Adams and the NYC government have decided that the only way to pay for all these illegals is to cut police. Here are the details from Fox News:
New York City on Thursday announced it is reducing police numbers and cutting budgets in areas like education as it continues to struggle with the exorbitant costs related to the “sanctuary” city’s migrant crisis.
Mayor Eric Adams announced a $110.5 billion budget, saying cuts across all agencies were necessary with the city having spent $1.45 billion in fiscal 2023 on the migrant crisis and nearly $11 billion expected to be spent in 2024 and 2025.
“For months, we have warned New Yorkers about the challenging fiscal situation our city faces,” Adams said in a statement. “To balance the budget as the law requires, every city agency dug into their own budget to find savings, with minimal disruption to services.
“And while we pulled it off this time, make no mistake: Migrant costs are going up, tax revenue growth is slowing and COVID stimulus funding is drying up.”
Adams has been trying to extort money from Washington, but hasn’t had a lot of luck. His initial virtue signaling has been hit in the head by the baseball bat of reality and the incompetent moron doesn’t have a clue how to handle it. What he should be doing is demanding that the maladministration start rounding up these criminal aliens and deporting them. Instead, he’s whining and complaining. Now he’s trying extortion by cutting services for American citizens and legal resident aliens living in the city.
The announcement of a police hiring freeze drew condemnation from the police union, which said it could put public safety in jeopardy.
“This is truly a disaster for every New Yorker who cares about safe streets,” police union President Patrick Hendry said. “Cops are already stretched to our breaking point, and these cuts will return us to staffing levels we haven’t seen since the crime epidemic of the ‘80s and ‘90s.
“We cannot go back there. We need every level of government to work together to find a way to support police officers and protect New York City’s 30 years of public safety progress.”
Crime is going out of control in Democrat controlled areas, which isn’t surprising of course. With thousands of illegals, many of whom are guilty of a lot more than crossing into the United States unlawfully, crime is going to get even worse. Cutting back on police, especially in a state that denies people the means to defend themselves, is a recipe for disaster. I have a sneaking suspicion that Eric Adams is going to be a one term mayor, and that’s if he doesn’t end up in jail himself. (More on that later)
