Terror attack in Moscow, apparently Islamic States (ISIS)

Good day all. Last week there was a massive terrorist attack in Moscow that has killed 120+ people and wounded hundreds. At first, Putin accused the Ukrainians, however, no one actually believed this was something they would do. It’s now turning out that this was an attack by a group associated with ISIS.

I’m actually surprised that this happened in Russia as are a lot of other people. If this had happened here, (In the United States), while people would be enraged with the Maladministration for letting it happen, no one would be all that surprised. What is interesting is that it looks like we found out about the attack and tried to warn the Russians. Here are the details from Fox News:

Two weeks before Friday’s attack on a large concert hall in Russia on the outskirts of Moscow that has left more than 130 dead, the U.S. embassy sent out a warning to Americans to “avoid large gatherings,” including concerts, because of “imminent plans” for an attack by “extremists.”

“The Embassy is monitoring reports that extremists have imminent plans to target large gatherings in Moscow, to include concerts, and U.S. citizens should be advised to avoid large gatherings over the next 48 hours,” stated the March 7 alert.

It was actually a couple of weeks before the attack was launched, which should have been more then enough time for Putin and the FSB to figure out who was involved and stop it. The problem here was Putin himself.

Russian President Vladimir Putin dismissed the U.S. warnings as “blackmail” just days before the attack.

Just three days before the attack, Putin said, “All this resembles outright blackmail and the intention to intimidate and destabilize our society,” calling the warnings “provocative,” according to Russian news agency TASS.

Blackmail? How did that idiot come up with that? Is he so far gone that a simple warning that any competent police/security force could work with is now political?

The State Department confirmed to Fox News that U.S. intelligence had information about a planned terrorist attack in Moscow, which prompted the agency to issue a public advisory to U.S. citizens in Russia.

The U.S. government also shared this information with Russian authorities in accordance with its longstanding “duty to warn” policy.

Regardless of what’s happening between the Ukraine and Russia, I can see sending out a warning notice. The problem here is Putin. I don’t think anyone in the United States or Europe was paying much attention to this notice, and if Putin had actually used the information and either stopped the attack before it started, or had forces in place to respond sooner, he could have come out looking good to the Russian people. I have little doubt that the censors are working overtime to bury this warning and Putin’s ignoring it.

On Saturday, Putin addressed the nation in a televised broadcast, slamming the massacre as “a bloody, barbaric terrorist act.” He declared Sun., March 24, a day of mourning.

Which it was.

“All four direct perpetrators of the terrorist attack, all those who shot and killed people, were found and detained,” Putin said. “They tried to hide and moved towards Ukraine, where, according to preliminary data, a window was prepared for them from the Ukrainian side to cross the state border,” suggesting there may have been a Ukrainian link to the bloodbath.

It’s possible that they did try to head for the Ukraine, but even if they made it, I can’t see the Ukrainian government doing anything other then arranging to hand them back over to the Russians. This is not something they would want to be associated with in any way shape or form.

Putin said that the Federal Security Service (FSB) of Russia and other law enforcement agencies are working to identify the entire terrorist support base.

“Those who provided them with transport, planned escape routes from the crime scene, prepared caches, caches of weapons and ammunition,” Putin said. “It is already obvious that we are faced not just with a carefully and cynically planned terrorist attack, but with the organized mass murder of peaceful, defenseless people. The criminals were cold-blooded and purposefully going to kill, shoot our citizens at point-blank range — our children.”

I will refrain from comments regarding the Russians actions in the Ukraine.

The intelligence community said it believes the ISIS affiliate in Afghanistan called Islamic State Khorasan, or “ISIS-K” as it is known, carried out the attack, a U.S. official told Fox News. It is the same terrorist group that killed 13 American service members at Abbey Gate during the hasty U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021.

Gee, thanks a lot Biden. Yes, I will blame the ever so incompetent Joe Biden. His bug out from Afghanistan was so inept that all the Islamic terrorist groups are now filtering back in and setting up shop, and now using all that expensive equipment that the most incompetent president* in American history abandoned.

As to what happens next, who knows? When this happened to Israel last October 7th, they declared war on Hamas and have been grinding them into dust. Unlike the Israelis, the Russians aren’t at all shy about mass causalities and collateral damage when they go after someone they perceive as a threat.

If the four people they’ve arrested are the actual terrorists and not scapegoats because they can’t find the real attackers, life is going to become very painful for them, and they will give up everything they know.

The next question is, how will this affect Vladimir Putin? While the Russians will suppress the news that the United States tried to warn them, in this day and age, the information will make it into Russia. A lot of Russians are not happy with Putin considering the losses from the “Short action” in the Ukraine.

Could it be that this will be the straw that breaks the camel’s back and Putin is retired from office due to ill health? (Copper jacked slugs into the head are not noted for their therapeutic benefits to the recipient. Who knows? I’m sure we will find out eventually.

I really can’t blame Putin too much. The rampant politicization of both the intelligence and justice communities have utterly destroyed any credibility they had. Denial is also an occupational disease for Russian leaders, remember Stalin received over 90 imminent threat warnings about Operation Barbarossa and refused to believe any of them.
