Good day all. Saturday, April 13th and Sunday April 14th, Iran launched a massive missile and drone strike on Israel. All of the weapons were shot down other then a few that were determined to not be a threat. (Why waste ammo?)
These weapons were intercepted by Israel, (Along with other nations including the United States Navy), using their Iron Dome antimissile system. (They also used other systems with longer range such as David’s Sling and the Arrow 2 and 3 systems. For years, Iron Dome has proven itself effective against rockets fired into Israel by Hamas, (Soon to be rendered extinct), and Hezbollah.
The system was developed under the Greatest President of the 20th Century, Ronald Reagan as part of his Star Wars Anti-Ballistic Missile program. Hundreds if not thousands of Israeli lives have been saved by the Iron Dome system. What many probably don’t know, and shouldn’t be surprised about, is that Joe Biden, back when he was just plain stupid and not suffering from Dementia, was opposed to the system. Here are the details from Fox News:
Iran fired more than 320 warheads at Israel on Saturday. The explosives were carried by about 170 propeller-driven drones of the kind Iran has sold Russia for use against Ukraine, more than 30 cruise missiles, and more than 120 ballistic missiles — mostly fired from Iranian territory at least 1,100 miles away to the east with a few launched from more distant Houthi-controlled Yemen to the south.
The attack failed to deliver any meaningful damage, though a 10-year-old girl was injured, as 99% of the drones and missiles were intercepted by Israel, the U.S., and likely Jordan and Saudi Arabia as well.
What Iran’s large-scale attack on Israel — more than twice as large as any Russian attack on Ukraine — did was show the value of a layered anti-missile defense championed by former Presidents Ronald Reagan and Donald Trump — and opposed by President Joe Biden, when he served in the U.S. Senate.
I can’t say I’m at all surprised about this. Joe Biden as Senator was totally opposed to the Reagan buildup that eventually led to the collapse of the Soviet Union. In fact, Slow Joe Biden, as he was called back then, opposed everything that is now in the United States arsenal and has proven itself time and time again, including the M1 Abrams Main battle Tank. When Reagan first announced the idea of stopping a Soviet nuclear missile attack, Biden was out there, making a fool of himself, saying that it wouldn’t work.
Iran’s triple threat attack was defeated by fighter jets, Israel’s short-range Iron Dome system, David’s Sling, a kinetic hit-to-kill interceptor system with a range out to 186 miles away, and Israel’s Arrow 2 and Arrow 3 systems, developed with the United States beginning in the late 1980s. The U.S. Navy also fired anti-ballistic missile rockets from warships nearby.
But, had Biden had his way in 1987, Israel wouldn’t have had the sophisticated and highly effective missile defense system.
At the time, I, (This article was written by Chuck DeVore), was a young special assistant for foreign affairs in the Pentagon. Shortly after the Republicans lost their U.S. Senate majority in the 1986 election, Democrats redoubled their efforts to terminate Reagan’s Strategic Defense Initiative.
Oh how the Democrats hated the idea of the SDI system. Of course, most of them were stooges and fellow travelers for the Soviet Union and would parrot whatever the Russians told them. They were all shown to be wrong when the USSR finally collapsed onto the ash heap of history in late 1991.
It was a destabilizing waste of money, they claimed. They argued on one hand that it cost too much, and it wouldn’t work anyway, and on the other hand, if it did work, it would increase the likelihood of a life-ending nuclear war.
I remember those days, (Yes, I’m dating myself), and recall just how hard the USSR fought against the Reagan defense buildup. We had the Nuclear Freeze movement which would have “Frozen nuclear weapon systems in favor of the Soviets. When Reagan gave his speech on the Strategic Defense Initiative, it was roundly insulted by the Democrats and nicknamed “Star Wars” after the movies. (The good ones, not the crap put out by Disney) The abject failure of Iran’s attack has demonstrated how wrong Biden and the Democrats were.

Besides the Democrats, there were those in Israel who didn’t think it would work and would take resources away from other defense systems they needed.
It’s important to note at the time that Arrow had its critics in both America and Israel. Aside from Biden and the largely anti-defense left, the Israeli Air Force was skeptical, fearing a diversion of resources from its ability to deter attacks on Israel through what was euphemistically called “preemptive diplomacy” — the threat of first strikes to destroy emerging dangers.
Basically, these resources were and are Israel’s nuclear deterrent. Israel has never admitted to the existence of a nuclear stockpile, but all those Jericho ballistic missiles aren’t loaded with confetti and tennis balls.
Israel’s Ministry of Defense believed that an effective anti-missile defense would blunt the destruction of an enemy surprise attack, allowing Israel the luxury of not having to conduct diplomatically costly preemptive strikes. That has now been borne out.
And that was the whole idea of the Strategic Defense Initiative as well as the Iron Dome and Arrow systems. If a missile strike was stopped and no real damage done, then the attacked side would be able to sit back and carefully consider how they would respond.
Recently, Israel, much to the annoyance of Dementia Joe, hit Iran, but in a very limited way. It looks like it was more of a “Proof of concept” attack. Considering that Iran never saw it coming, I think the concept has been proven out.
If there had been no Iron Dome system, those weapons would have hit Israel and killed who knows how many people. Israel would have had no real choice in how they responded and might have considered hitting Iran with something a little more powerful.
Of course, Joe Biden wouldn’t be Joe Biden if he didn’t say something utterly wrong headed about the situation.
In the wake Iran’s foiled attack on Israel, Biden told Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to “take the win” and not strike back. Further driving the point home — likely to appeal to the Democrats’ growing problem with their antisemitic, left-wing base — Biden said he wouldn’t support an Israeli counterattack.
Netanyahu’s response was basically akin to handing Biden a bowl of ice cream and telling him to go watch television and let the grown ups talk. Thanks to the Greatest President of the 20th Century, Iron Dome was developed and has been repeatedly tested and improved on. (We can thank Hamas and Hezbollah for providing the live fire targets for Israel to practice on) As for the Worst President* in American History, he is once again proving out former Secretary of Defense Robert Gate’s remarks.
