Greenland, U.S.A?

Good day all. Recently, President Trump started talking about taking control of the Panama Canal and buying Greenland. For most Americans, the Panama Canal makes sense. We built it and Panama wouldn’t exist if it wasn’t for the United States. However, most people are going “Buy Greenland? WTF?”

Most people have been thinking that this was just President Trump indulging in his favorite pastime. Trolling leftards.

Greenland is, technically, a possession of Denmark. (Specifically an Autonomous Territory) There are about 60,000 people who live on Greenland. From what I understand, Denmark spends on the order of a billion dollars each year on Greenland. The United States has a security agreement and maintains a base there. Strategically, it’s a valuable location. The region is also rich in minerals. From what I have read, Denmark, being fully on board with Woke, Global Human caused climate change, has essentially blocked the residents of Greenland from exploiting their own resources.

Back 2019, President Trump first floated the idea of buying Greenland from Denmark. Obviously, nothing came of it, and honestly, I don’t even recall the offer being made. I doubt anyone took it seriously. This time, it appears that President Trump, once he’s sworn back into office, might actually pursue making some sort of a deal.

The Danish government is opposed to handing over Greenland to the United States. However, it doesn’t look like they’ve actually asked what the people of Greenland might want. Apparently, a significant majority are interested in either full independence from Denmark, (With some sort of a deal with the United States), or becoming some sort of a territory of the United States, not unlike Guam or Puerto Rico. It now seems that the Danish government is starting to rethink their opposition. Here are some of those details from the New York Post:

Danish leaders have sent private messages to President-elect Donald Trump’s team in recent days in a bid to pacify his ambitions for taking over Greenland, according to a new report.

Apparently this message was sent when the leaders of Greenland reached out to President Trump and basically said, “Hey, let’s have a discussion.”

Copenhagen is allegedly open to allowing US military presence on the autonomous island to boost security and appease Trump, who claimed “military coercion” could be deployed to bring Greenland under US rule, sources familiar with the talks told Axios.

One of the reports coming out from the Trump team is that he might send in the Marines and simply take control of Greenland. While the Leftards are up in arms over this, no one with any sense believes this is a realistic possibility. The only reason to do this would be at the request, by a very large majority of the residents of Greenland, to “rescue” them from Danish control. (I’m thinking at least 65% or more of the people making the request)

Recently, Donald Trump Jr. visited Greenland and talked with people there. One of the residents showed up wearing a MAGA hat and asking for the United States to basically take over. Apparently, the idea is starting to poll well with the people, which is probably why the Danish government is starting to panic)

The Danish government, which is responsible for Greenland’s defense, wants to avoid clashing with the US and hopes to assure Trump that Greenland will be safe from Russia and China without the need for American annexation, the sources added.

I don’t think the Danish government really understands what is happening here. It’s not just security, it’s also the resources on Greenland. If those resources are tapped, the people there are going to have great jobs and a lot of money coming in. If they were annexed by the United States, they would also have free access to the United States, just like Puerto Ricans and the other remaining territories The U.S. has.

Copenhagen has also asked Trump’s team to clarify the incoming president’s comments after he shocked the world by suggesting that the US could invade the longstanding NATO ally.

As I mentioned before, the odds of the United States actually sending in troops is minuscule. What should worry the Europeans is that President Trump and a majority of Americans no longer see any real purpose to NATO. Since the implementation of NATO, and certainly since the collapse of the Soviet Union, the Europeans have not been keeping up their end of the deal with regards to maintaining their militaries. They’ve cut their defense spending, thinking that the United States would pick up the slack. In his first term, President Trump blasted the Europeans over this,

One European diplomat told Axios that Denmark was widely seen as America’s closest ally in the European Union, and that no one could have imagined it’d be the first with which Trump would pick a fight.

Actually, It’s those European “Allies” that have been picking a fight with the United States. We’ve seen the European Union attacking American businesses for not bowing to the Bureaucrats in Brussels, and more recently, we’ve seen the British government threaten to extradite Americans and jail them for posting memes and blasting the governments cover up of the rapes by Muslims of British women and teen girls.

Greenland had been a colony of Denmark since the 18th century and became a self-governing Danish territory in 1953. In 2009, the island won the right to secure independence if its inhabitants ever voted to do so — something that Greenland’s prime minister, Múte Egede, supports.

It looks like that President Trump has ignited the fuse that may lead the people of Greenland to hold a plebiscite to declare their independence. If they do vote for independence, I think the new Trump Administration would enter into discussions with the government to access the country’s resources and improve the defense status. (Hopefully, they will also restore the U.S. base’s name to Thule Air Force Base from it’s current Pfffthhh name pushed through by the morons in the Biden Maladministration)

At a press conference Friday in Denmark, which exercises nominal sovereignty over Greenland, Egede said he accepted that Greenland was “a place that the Americans see as part of their world” and that while he has not spoken with Trump, he was open to “discussions about what unites us.”

We are ready to talk,” he said. “Cooperation is about dialogue. Cooperation means that you will work towards solutions.”

I honestly don’t know if we will annex or buy Greenland. The last time we did anything like this, it was the purchase of the Virgin Islands and we bought those from Denmark in 1917. We also ended up with some territories after the Spanish-American war, although we have managed to unload most of them.

If we do somehow acquire Greenland as a new American Territory, it’s going to shake a lot of things up. I don’t see Greenland becoming a state. They don’t have the minimum population to be a state. If they do become an American Territory, you can look for Mining companies to start salivating over the resources. You can also expect the new governor, (Who might even be the Current Prime Minister. Who can say?) to drive a hard bargain with those companies and to the benefit of the people. Whatever happens, it’s going to be interesting to see.
