White House asks Congress to cut funds for PBS and USAID

Good day all. President Trump has been working hard to make good on his promises to “Drain the swamp” and cut wasteful and fraudulent spending. Thanks to the findings of DOGE and Elon Musk, hundreds of billions of dollars of waste has been found.

This has led the usual suspects on the Left to scream that President Trump is bypassing Congress and how dare he steal “THEIR” money. Like a broken clock, the Democrats are not completely wrong. However, President Trump has always said that he was going to work with Congress on the cuts and he has made a request to cut funding for both USAID and PBS. Here are the details from Newsmax:

The White House is preparing a formal request to Congress to cancel $9.3 billion in funding already approved for public broadcasting as well as foreign aid cuts identified by the Department of Government Efficiency, according to reports.

In a memo, White House budget director Russ Vought is seeking rescissions in more than $1 billion appropriated for the Corporation of Public Broadcasting, which channels funds to PBS and National Public Radio, and $8.3 billion in USAID cuts, the New York Post reported.

This is the next step in cutting spending and Making America Great Again. There has always been an argument on spending and the executive branch, however, putting a formal request into congress takes care of that issue.

The formal request starts a 45-day clock for Congress to approve the proposed clawbacks. Both houses will need a simple majority to pass the request when lawmakers return from the two-week Easter recess, Politico reported.

That was something I wasn’t aware of. The Democrats just took two in the back of the head. They won’t be able to filibuster this. However, you still have the problem of the RINO sisters in the Senate and blithering idiots in the House. Still, this should be a no brainer for the smooth brains in the Congress after all the fraud that was uncovered. It will also be fun to watch the Democrats trying to save USAID and push money to PBS, especially since PBS doesn’t actually need it.

Also targeted in the cuts are the State Department and the U.S. Institute for Peace ($15 million), the Inter-American Foundation ($27 million) and the U.S. African Development Foundation ($22 million), according to the Post.

Now that’s interesting. Both of those agencies are nothing but massive centers of fraud. I wrote about the “Institute for Peace” recently and how they literally fortified their building to keep DOGE and President Trump’s people out. As for the African Development Foundation, I have something in the queue on how they were doing kickbacks to the management. I know there are some lawsuits regarding the closure of these agencies, but legislatively killing them ends that little problem. Switching over the New York Post story:

“Since day one, the Trump Administration has targeted waste, fraud, and abuse in Federal spending through executive action, DOGE review, and other efforts by departments and agencies. Congress has expressed strong interest in supporting those efforts, and requested the Administration transmit rescissions to the Hill for swift approval,” White House Budget Director Russ Vought’s memo says.

“OMB recommends the Administration respond with two proposals to cut $9.3 billion. The first includes a rescission of $8.3 billion in wasteful foreign aid spending (out of $22 billion) that does not expire in Fiscal Year (FY) 2025. The second is a separate rescission of all Federal funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) — which funds the politically biased public radio and public television system.”

To say that NPR and CPB are biased is an understatement. They have, for decades, done nothing but push a view that the United States should be a centralized with all power reserved to the United Nations Global World Government. They also consider the Constitution to be a dead letter. They also are well known for “Biting the hand that feeds them.”

The White House memo notes that NPR CEO Katherine Maher once called Trump a “fascist” and a “deranged racist” — statements that Maher told Congress last month she now regrets making — and cites two recent PBS programs featuring transgender characters.

Oh I bet she regrets making that statement. Of course that was back in 2018 and 2020. I doubt she ever thought that President Trump would be back in office. Well, guess what happened Katherine? On the flip side we have Republicans cheering President Trump on.

Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.) applauded the plan Monday, tweeting: “NPR and PBS have a right to publish their biased coverage — but they don’t have a right to spend taxpayer money on it. It’s time to defund the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.”

Personally, In think the CPB should be completely separated from the Government other then the normal licensing done by the FCC. They can stand or fail miserably on their own. Not one thin dime of taxpayer funds should be provided to that pack of deep state communists.

Trump himself called for NPR and PBS to be defunded last month, though it was unclear at the time how that would be accomplished.

Well now we know. Ask Congress to pass a bill that President Trump can sign.

Trump attempted just one rescissions package in his first term. The $14.7 billion in proposed cuts passed the House but was narrowly defeated in the Senate by a 50-48 vote, with then-Sen. Richard Burr (R-NC) tanking the plan over his objection to zeroing out $16 million in unused money in the Land and Water Conservation Fund.

I checked and Burr the RINO chose not to get blown out in his primary and “retired.” Good riddance to Deep State Uniparty Country Club Republicans. Now, as to what will happen to this bill? By rights, it should pass both houses of congress and sent to President Trump’s desk for a signature.

If those jello spined RINO’s blow this, then we need to go full blown political beat downs on them. Primary every single one of the. I also think we are long past time to get a term limits amendment for both elected and appointed officials. In the mean time, Call your representatives and senators and tell them to pass the rescission bill asap.
