Israel bombs Iran’s nuclear weapon production sites

Good day all. Well, we can’t say that we didn’t know this day was coming. Netanyahu and Israel have been pretty much saying that they will do whatever it takes to prevent Iran from building nuclear weapons. Well, they have done just that.

Israel launched a full assault against Iran’s nuclear program, missile facilities and apparently took out a few members of the Iranian command structure. Here are the details from Fox News:

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed that one of Iran’s top nuclear facilities had been hit in Thursday night’s strike against the regime.

“Iran has produced enough highly enriched uranium for nine atom bombs, nine,” Netanyahu said. “In recent months, Iran is taking steps that it has never taken before, steps to weaponize this enriched uranium. And if not stopped, Iran could produce a nuclear weapon in a very short time.”

The reports coming out on how close Iran was to building a nuke seem to point to being days or a couple of weeks at most. Both the United States and Israel have been working to sabotage Iran’s nuclear program. One of the tools used was the Stuxnet worm that was covertly uploaded to the control systems that managed the centrifuges Iran was using to separate out weapons grade uranium. Israel has also resorted to more “Direct” actions. Terminating, with extreme prejudice, Iranian nuclear scientists.

The Natanz Nuclear Facility – one of Tehran’s key nuclear sites and which has been flagged by security experts that in coordination with the Fordow Fuel Enrichment Plant, could produce enough weapons-grade uranium to produce 11 nuclear weapons within a month – has been hit in the strikes, though the extent of the damage remains unknown.

From what I have been able to find, there was significant damage, but apparently no release of radioactive material. That or any radioactive material was buried and didn’t escape into the environment.

The Nantaz Nuclear Facility was at least partially destroyed in 2020 following an explosion, and satellite imagery has suggested Iran began constructing deep underground tunnels to further secure and obscure their nuclear program, reported the Institute for Science and International Security earlier this year.

That might be a problem. If the tunnels were deep, then standard ordnance might not be able to punch down deep enough to blow them up. On the other hand, the United States does have an interesting system to deal with just that sort of problem. I wouldn’t be surprised if Israel has a few of these items, or built a few of their own.

Israel also went after Iran’s missile manufacturing plants and also took out a number of senior Iranian commanders. According to Fox News, Israel took out 30 Iranian senior officials.

A senior Israeli intelligence official tells Fox News that 30 Iranian military officers were killed in a targeted Israeli airstrike that decimated Iran’s Air Force and Air Defense leadership.

The IDF now claims aerial superiority over Tehran.

We paved the way to Tehran,” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Saturday. “Our pilots over the skies of Tehran will deal blows to the Ayatollah regime that they cannot even imagine.”

One of the things I would love to learn is how Israel is managing the air strikes into Iran. Besides having to cross other nations, Iran is about 1000 miles from Israel. Now the United States Air Force could easily handle that logistically. We do it all the time. I don’t have any idea how Israel’s logistical systems are set up. I also don’t think if I called the IDF and asked, they would tell me.

It’s been several days since the attack on Iran’s nuclear and command structure and not unexpectedly, Iran launched a missile and drone attack on Israel. There were some civilian casualties in Israel sadly, but Israel is not backing down. They are continuing to wreck havoc on Iran’s nuclear and military infrastructure while calling on the Iranian people to remove the mad mullahs from power. Indeed, the airstrikes are continuing. Here are a few details from Newsmax:

Israel unleashed airstrikes across Iran for a third day on Sunday and threatened even greater force as some Iranian missiles evaded Israeli air defenses to strike buildings in the heart of the country. Planned talks on Iran’s nuclear program, which could provide an off-ramp, were canceled.

The so called “Talks” were bogus from the get go and I think that the Trump Administration knew this going in. However, they had to do the “Due Diligence” and try to get Iran to see reason. The problem there is that Iran is not reasonable. They were just stringing things along like they did under Obama and Biden. The seemed to have forgotten that President Trump knows how the Iranians play the game and he set a hard deadline of 60 days. On day 61, KABOOM!

The region braced for a protracted conflict after Israel’s surprise bombardment of Iran’s nuclear and military sites on Friday killed several top generals and nuclear scientists, and neither side showed any sign of backing down. Iran said Israel struck two oil refineries, raising the prospect of a broader assault on Iran’s heavily sanctioned energy industry that could affect global markets.

Iran isn’t supposed to be able to sell any oil in the first place. If Israel did hit the refineries, I see this as just enforcing the sanctions.

The Israeli military, in a social media post, warned Iranians to evacuate arms factories, signaling what could be a further widening of the campaign. Around noon local time, explosions were heard again in the Iranian capital, Tehran.

Israel has a long history of sending out warnings to clear a targeted area. If people don’t leave, it’s on them. I do expect that the Gaza Ministry of Health to announce that 15,000 Palestinian children were killed in the attacks on the Iranian military infrastructure.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Sunday that if the Israeli strikes on Iran stop, then “our responses will also stop.” He said the United States “is a partner in these attacks and must take responsibility.”

I don’t think the Iranians have quite gotten the message yet. Israel is not going to allow Iran to be a nuclear threat and will do whatever it takes to end that potential threat permanently. As for blaming the United States for Israel blowing the snot out of Iran? Most Americans are just fine with it. We should have done this decades ago after the last time Iran messed with America’s boats.

Israeli strikes targeted Iran’s Defense Ministry early Sunday after hitting air defenses, military bases and sites associated with its nuclear program. The killing of several top generals and nuclear scientists in targeted strikes indicated that Israeli intelligence has penetrated Iran at the highest levels.

One of the things that Israel has declassified is that they had special operations teams in place in Iran preparing to “Do things.” I’m assuming those teams are now safely out of Iran. Israel was also able to get a number of senior Iranian leaders in one place where the IAF, (Israeli Air Force), arranged a meeting with Allah. They have been continuing to take out the Iranian command and scientific infrastructure. Basically, the gloves have come off.

World leaders made urgent calls to deescalate. The attack on nuclear sites set a “dangerous precedent,” China’s foreign minister said. The region is already on edge as Israel seeks to annihilate Hamas, an Iranian ally, in the Gaza Strip, where the war is still raging after Hamas’ Oct. 7, 2023, attack.

Israel’s response?

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu brushed off such calls, saying Israel’s strikes so far are “nothing compared to what they will feel under the sway of our forces in the coming days.”

As I mentioned, the airstrikes and other types of operations on Iran are continuing. Apparently, Israel is expecting this to go on for at least two weeks. There are other things Israel may be preparing to unleash, including Stuxnet Mark II. Deescalation is certainly not in the cards. I suspect that if Israel can get a shot at the Mad Mullahs, they are going to take it. As for the United States? President Trump is monitoring the situation closely.
