GOP has a way to ruin Virginia Democrats Gerrymander plans

Good day all. If you weren’t aware of what’s going on in the Commonwealth of Virginia, shame on you. The Democrats have taken full control of the state and are now in the process of turning it into Kalifornistan East. One of their plans is to so gerrymander the congressional districts that no one but a Democrat can win.

There is still a lot going on legally with their attempt and because they were impatient and apparently couldn’t be bothered to actually follow the state’s constitution or the laws, might see their plan thrown out. However, a member of Congress has come up with another way to really screw over the Democrats. Here are the details from Just The News:

Rep. Rich McCormick, R-Ga., this week introduced a bill returning Arlington and Alexandria to Washington, D.C., after the areas heavily backed a redistricting referendum in the state.

Arlington and Alexandria were historically part of Washington, D.C., until 1846 and the district itself was originally a square. The counties have, in recent decades, shifted from Republican strongholds to Democratic ones, largely due to the expansion of federal government jobs in the region.

A number of those Federal workers are now ex-federal workers as the Trump Administration started clearing out the deadwood. This has truly pissed of the entitled bureaucrats who believe that having a government job entitles them to guaranteed lifetime employment and no repercussions for being monumentally incompetent. They see the Democrats as giving them what they want, basically high paying no show jobs.

The Make DC Square Again Act restores the original ten-mile-square District and ends the artificial advantage Virginia Democrats have recently gained from all the federal bureaucrats moving into Virginia,” McCormick said in a statement.

That would be phase one. Phase two would be to end home rule…again and put DC back under congressional control.

The bill is unlikely to become law, but McCormick has also argued that the original return of the land to Virginia was not constitutional.

The Constitution never authorized Congress to carve pieces out of the federal District and hand them back to a state,” he said. “Democrats have spent years manipulating maps and boundaries to rig elections.”

I have no idea how this would work if Washington were to try and grab those two areas. I also don’t know if Rep. McCormick’s remarks on the constitutionality of the original return to the states is accurate. I do know that if these two areas are restored to the District of Columbia, it would blow a major hole in the Democrat’s control of Virginia. The representatives would be removed from the state legislature since the areas would no longer be part of the State of Virginia. I suspect it would mean that a new election for probably have to be held.

The other thing that will happen is the annual demand by the Democrats to make the District of Columbia a state. First, the addition of Arlington and Alexandria will simply make it even more Democrat then it currently is. However, there is this little issue the Democrats always ignore. The District of Columbia can never become a state.

If they were to try, the District would be dissolved and the lands returned to the states they came from. A new District that would be the capitol of the United States would have to be created. The issue revolves around Article I, Section 8, Clause 17 of the United States Constitution. This section states:

To exercise exclusive Legislation in all Cases whatsoever, over such District (not exceeding ten Miles square) as may, by Cession of particular States, and the Acceptance of Congress, become the Seat of Government of the United States, and to exercise like Authority over all Places purchased by the Consent of the Legislature of the State in which the Same shall be, for the Erection of Forts, Magazines, Arsenals, dock-Yards, and other needful Buildings;–And

Basically, the District of Columbia is completely controlled by the Federal Government. If DC became a state, then the 10th Amendment is in effect, which means that the Federal government couldn’t exercise total control. Therefore, it couldn’t be the Capitol of the United States.

While this idea has zero chance of happening, I think it’s amusing that someone put it forward. As it is, there is a fair chance that the Virginia Communists Democrats went to far and the state supreme court is going to toss the redistricting referendum. That would make the whole case for bring Arlington and Alexandria back into the District pretty much of a moot point. Stay tuned though. The Virginia Democrats have ripped off the veneer and shown what the party’s plans for America actually are.
