Good day all. One of President Trump’s promises back in 2024 was that if elected, he would remove every illegal alien they can find. Once he took office, he instructed the DHS and ICE to go out and get illegals. ICE has been concentrating on the real bad actors, those who have committed additional crimes besides being in the United States illegally.
However, this hasn’t stopped ICE from picking up illegals who have only entered the United States and remained here. The Trump Administration has also been securing the border that the Biden Maladministration threw open to millions of illegals. Border crossings are way, way down.
Besides the normal deportation process, something that the COB judges have been actively trying to thwart, the Trump administration has also been encouraging people to self deport, including providing plane tickets and cash incentives. Now the statistics are in and we are seeing an actual drop in the population of the United States. Here are the details from the Washington Times. (Probably paywalled):
President Trump has cut the illegal immigrant population by 2.3 million since he took office, according to a preliminary analysis of government numbers to be released Thursday.
The legal immigrant population is also down, falling by some 600,000 from January 2025 to July 2026, according to calculations from the Center for Immigration Studies.
There are a number of reasons why legal aliens might be leaving. I suspect that a large number are H1B or other work related visa holders.
The numbers mark the first time in nearly a century — since the 1930s — that the U.S. has recorded a sustained net decrease in migration. In fact, the country’s overall population is likely to show an unprecedented decline, said Steven A. Camarota, the center’s research director.
“We’ve never seen anything quite like this before,” Mr. Camarota told The Washington Times. “This is big and sustained, as best as we can tell.”
He said the drop is directly attributable to Mr. Trump’s stricter immigration policy, which has formally deported hundreds of thousands of migrants and pressured many more to leave on their own — or “self-deport.”
I suspect that if it hadn’t been for the interference by the COB Activist judges and the moves by the Democrat controlled cities and states to protect illegal aliens, these number would be far higher.
The change is all the more striking after the four years under President Biden, when the country added some 8.3 million immigrants to its population, the largest surge in history.
“It is a fundamental change, and it’s profound,” Mr. Camarota said.
The estimate of 8.3 million illegal aliens coming in under Dementia Joe Biden’s maladministration is probably very conservative. The real number may be as high as 20 million.
Mr. Camarota calculated that the illegal immigrant population stood at 15.8 million in January 2025 but slipped to 13.5 million as of July. That is a net figure, weighing new arrivals against departures, deaths and those gaining legal status. The total foreign-born population dropped from 53.3 million to 50.5 million over the first 18 months of Mr. Trump’s presidency.
Among the legal population, Mr. Camarota said, fewer people are arriving in the first place. That includes refugees and foreign students.
While I can’t say for sure, one group coming in are those who are looking for the traditional “Better life” and aren’t trying to game the system claiming asylum. You may have people coming in under a K-1 visa to get married, others who just want to come to the United States and potentially become citizens. That type of immigration takes longer to process and people going through that process might have to wait a year or more. These are the people that we generally want to come here.
Some 44% of those who left were workforce participants. That was significantly lower than the overall working rate of the illegal immigrant population, which approaches 60%. The relatively low number of workers also could be why Mr. Trump’s deportation campaign has not resulted in a significant national economic disruption. Still, some regional economies have reported struggles, such as construction in South Texas.
In my opinion, anyone knowingly employing illegal aliens needs to be prosecuted. Now if they can’t find actual construction workers, American citizens and legal resident aliens, then we can talk about short term work visas. However, those people will be paid the same as any American and all taxes will also be paid. If these construction companies don’t like that, tough.
A population drop would be uncharted territory for the modern U.S. economy.
“It’s nothing to panic about,” Mr. Camarota said. “First of all, we’re mostly losing low-income workers. But like anything else, it can create challenges. And it creates winners and losers.”
We are already seeing housing costs where there have been large round ups of illegal aliens start dropping.
Workers will likely be winners, with fewer people competing for jobs and housing. Employers and homeowners, though, could be affected by fewer consumers, fewer job applicants and less pressure for home value increases.
As someone who was recently added the unemployment lines, I consider fewer people competing for a job to be a good thing. Now if we can just get the entire H1B visa program shut down. That could, if the numbers I’ve seen are accurate, open up a million tech jobs in the United States. As to home prices? They have reached the point that people simply can’t afford to buy them. Much as it would suck to be a seller, better it goes for a bit less than you wanted then not sell at all.
“On balance, I think it’s a good deal for the country because I think most people are more worried about wages, housing prices, congestion and impact on schools and hospitals,” he said.
Illegal aliens are a net drain on the United States. The Democrats want them because they see them as a means to hold and increase their own power. If this trend continues, when the 2030 census is done, we could see significant population drops in the Democrat run cities and states. We’re already seeing a migration out of California, New York and Illinois for places like Florida and Texas.
The Democrat states could and probably will, lose several House seats. Red States, where people are moving to, are expected to pick up seats. That means a loss of power and influence for the Democrat Party. Now the Census also counts illegal aliens as well as legal aliens. If those illegals aren’t here, the cushion the Democrat Party was counting on is gone. This is why the Democrats have been fighting tooth and nail to stop the deportations.
One of the things the Democrats are trying to do, is gin up sympathy for the plight of the “Undocumented Immigrants.” The problem is, it’s not working. The majority of people are quite happy with removing all of the illegal aliens in the United States. When people are asked if this is what they voted for?
